Ivy cottage is a well-equipped, quaint 3 bdr cottage that was perfect for our trip. It has a lovely deck overlooking a large pond (depending on where you are from), and at night we were serenaded by the frogs, and in the morning, by birdsong. It is set at the end of a group of cottages spaciously arranged, so it was also very quiet. Having a room for each of our young adult children was great, and add in the money saved by not having to eat out and it was a no brainer to pick it over a cramped hotel room somewhere closer to a beach for the same price.
It was about half-way between Provincetown and Chatham, our two destinations, and located quite near the Audubon Sanctuary, so it suited our needs perfectly. The kitchen is well-equipped, with lots of nice matching sets of plates, glasses that gave it a homey feel, and not the frequent cottage hodgepodge of utensils, beat up pots and pans. and mismatched glasses. Everything was well cared for, and thoughtfully provided. We would have liked wi-fi, but it was good for us to be forced away from our screens!
The highest praises go to the owner, who was wonderfully gracious to us in solving problems caused by our mistakes. The highlight of our trip was seeing many whales from the beach at the northern part of Cape Cod, at first mainly just spouts as they passed by on their migration, but when we hiked to Race Point Lighthouse, we saw many finback whales close enough to see their long backs roll through the water even without binoculars. Finback whales are the second largest whales after blue whales, and it was amazing to get a first hand sense of how big they are. We would heartily recommend this cottage, and return there again.
