There are only 30-35 rooms in the entire hotel but we had a clean, comfortable, large room with 2 queen beds. There is no pool or exercise room but do have free breakfast that was decent. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and a bike ride away from much more. It is also next door to grocery store.

Excels in "basic". Breakfast was truly continental and dull, low budget, had a pancake maker that was terrible, came out tough not fluffy.

Room was OK, had refrigerator, cable TV worked off and on and poorly, bed was rather hard, hurt to lay for hours.

The "business center" was a table with computer in breakfast room where anyone could shoulder surf.

Doors were noisy, floors creaky, no frills, nothing but rooms and breakfast room. Front desk people showed indifference, no where near as "friendly" as reviewers claimed, looked like they wanted to be somewhere else.

Without an elevator this hotel is NOT handicapped accessible.

No thanks.

It seems that room prices increase each year, but the amenities do not. On our second morning, I reported that the bathtub was not draining properly, and later that afternoon we found that the toilet was not flushing. The very pleasant desk clerk tried her best to plunge the problem, but to no avail. We had to move our belongings to a new room on the second floor (without benefit of an elevator). Now, we had been unable to reserve a king size bed room (the queen size is just not acceptable) - but in the new room there was a king size bed!

On the plus side: extensive renovations are being conducted, and the desk clerk advised that we should be able to have a king size bed if we return. The free breakfast was quite satisfactory, and the attached restaurant (The Grille on Main Street) is very pleasing both in terms of decor and food quality.

The Clarion's location and general cleanliness will probably draw us back, but lower rates and somewhat better customer service would cement the deal.

Room tip: The lack of an elevator makes the second floor rooms less desirable.

This hotel is very expensive in summer, because Martha's Vineyard is very expensive in summer. If all you need is a decent room on the outskirts of Edgartown (you can walk "downtown" in 15 minutes) you'll be satisfied. But there are really no other amenities. No pool, no landscaping, nothing (well, I guess, there's a restaurant that faces the street and is attached to the hotel). You do get a "free breakfast" in the morning but, for Martha's Vineyard, it's quite poor. I guess the "hot" part of the breakfast is a pancake machine that makes pretty bad pancakes. The only protein is refrigerated hard boil eggs. The rest is cheap processed foods. It escapes me why the hotel just doesn't raise it's room rates 5 bucks and give their well-heeled customers a breakfast they'd actually want to eat. It would probably boost their tripadvisor rating considerably!

If you do have a car, there's plenty of parking on-site. There's also a supermarket next door (we bought a $5 rotisserie chicken there for lunch one day -- probably the best food deal on the island). Edgartown is probably the toniest and most expensive of the Martha's Vineyard towns. You can walk to Edgartown Seafood for some affordable takeaway seafood. Otherwise, good-value restaurants are non-existent in the immediate area. If you have a car, we found the best beach to drive to on the island was Aquinnah. Sadly, it's on the other side of the island.

We stayed at this hotel for four days. I thought the staff were ok - nothing to write home about. The previous writer is correct that the staff are the primary users of the very minimal breakfast room. The selection for breakfast is skimpy and low budget.
The toilets do not work properly - they often require two flushes for nothing. I thought the price of this hotel was high for what we got.
