Wompatuck State Park

We love nature so much we camped at Wompatuck (which was only 1.5 miles from our house) several weeks out of the summer. We got to know and love the place. There are endless interesting places to explore. We were in a tent and most of the time, it was quiet and friendly. We found our favorite campsites and often we would sleep there and go to work and come back to a campfire, starry skies, food that always tastes better outside and a lovely break from technology and stress.

I found the showers fine for me. They were clean and it was not crowded when I went. There is water accessible from the taps or drive down the road and get some to drink from Mt. Blue spring. The paths are good for hiking or biking and you can be with people or find far away places.

It seems weird maybe to camp in one's own town but we love it. It certainly made summer feel more like summer, even while we were working.

We are in the area for two weeks and are using Wompatuk as or base of operations to visit the surrounding area and attractions. We love the natural setting and our campsite on the L loup. However, the downside is the dirtiest most unkempt washrooms and shower facilities we have ever experienced in a state park. With this in mind we are uncertain that we will return again for a two week stay. We suggest that you let it be known if you experience the same problems with dirty, un-sanitized conditions.

We decided to make this our base camp when visiting Boston. The campground is beautiful! We wish we had more time to spend here. The sites are generous in size, your site is not right next to your neighbor and there is brush/trees between sites. We took the Hingham Ferry into Boston and it was only a 10 minute drive from here. The train is also about 10 minutes away but we recommend the ferry. There is nothing like coming into Boston Harbor.

Wompatuck is a wonderful wooded park - with a variety of hiking and biking trails all in the woods. I have been using it to train for the Camino de Santiago in Spain - a wonderful and managable park with a few large ponds and reservoirs - for fishing and boating. Has a seasonal camping ground and a natural spring that locals visit to get fresh spring water. Many locals walk their dogs on or off leash. Very friendly park for families.

I used the park all through the year -- even in the winter months.
Also a historical site used as naval ammunitin storagae facility during WWII

We can't speak much for the park as we only slept here, but the non-electric campsite facilities were fantastic. Well-maintained campsites that are drive-up, and the showers and bathrooms are clean and didn't run out of soap or toilet paper even with several visitors. The staff all seemed friendly!
