Our welcome at the Porches Inn on our arrival was somewhat cool. We were given a ground floor room at the rear of the property, so there was no traffic noise, and the room was big and adequately equipped.
We knew that the room had a safe, but they did not automatically offer us a key for it at check-in – we had to go back that and ask for one.
I believe we were given an ‘accessible’ room, as the shower stall included a seat, and we found that the way the shower was designed the floor outside it was soaked as soon as you ran the water. This is only a small point, but one that could be easily addressed.
The room was clean and bed (a Queen) was comfortable enough, but the other furniture was not so comfy, and the available light in the room was very dim.
When we went to reception for ask for local information, some of the time the staff were helpful but at other times rather off-hand.
Breakfast was a touch chaotic. The room was quite small, given the number of guests, and it was a bit of squeeze finding room to sit. The food on offer was adequate but fairly simple.
The location of the Inn was good - MassMoCa is within a few minutes walk, and other amenities and restaurants are reachable on foot.
The downside of The Porches Inn was, we felt, that it is very expensive for what you got – it did not feel like good value for money.

Dear LP-UK,

Thank you for taking the time to post this review of the Porches Inn at MASS MoCA. We're sorry that we didn't quite live up to expectations but gratified that you were still sufficiently pleased with your stay to give us a four-star rating.

First of all, let me apologize for the lukewarm reception and perfunctory concierge service you received. Customer service is the name of the game in the hospitality industry, and it's very disconcerting to hear that we fell short in this regard. We have given the staff members involved a refresher course on our company's core principles.

As for our breakfast room, we readily admit that we've outgrown it; we'll be building a new, much larger breakfast facility next year.

We appreciate your business and hope you'll come see us again the next time you cross the pond.

Best regards,

Kim

I can't say enough about how quaint and wonderful this place was. Such rich history, but everything about the room was wonderful. The bed was AMAZING!!! The soaking tub was great, room was immaculate, even offered turn down service! Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

I can not say enough about the charm of this Inn. The rooms were cozy and charming and spotlessly clean. They offer a breakfast, exercise room, hot tub, fire pit and porch swings. I thought I was going back in time to a day when people really cared about their customers. This place does. It is also across the street from MassMoca.

Room Tip: Advance reservations especially during tourist season

Not your typical hotel in any way, very thoughtfully repurposed from the original apartments- including decorative items indicative of what would have been in such apartments. Love the small balcony, the pool and the hot tub, both are relaxing after hours of walking Mass Moca across the street. Very close to the sweet town of Williamstown and the art there...

Room Tip: our room was in the back overlooking the pool, away from the noisy street

The Porches Inn was in a wonderful location in North Adams. The innkeepers paid great attention to detail to make this a very comfortable and cozy place to lay our head and relax after a day of exploring! Nice breakfast, large guest room and interesting retro decor! We would definitely come back again!
