We’ve just returned from a last-minute break at Owston Hall Hotel and this definitely won’t be our only visit. From the minute we arrived until we checked out we were treated as valued guests. Being ‘Canny Scot’s’ who like a bargain and this deal more that met our expectations. The course although shorter than it was in the past still poses a challenge. At the time of our visit there was quite a bit of wispy rough that claimed a few of my golf balls; my husband on the other hand is a better spotter than me so didn’t have the same problem (the green keepers were cutting the rough during our second round much to my delight). Some of the greens still needed some attention but this is due the damage done by vandals a year or so ago, those not damaged are in good condition. The course, although not championship standard as yet, is in great shape and will continue to improve given the dedication of the head green keeper and entire team.
We had a couple of detours on our way to the hotel as our sat-nav sent us up the lane to the church directly behind the hotel. After a multi-point turn on a narrow lane we then took the next right anddrove past a sign with two flags and a bed; there was no indication that this was directing us to Owston Hall Hotel so had to do another about turn in the village, come back and take a chance that this was the route. Improved signage would help.
We had a long drive so arrived after the allotted 11:00-13:00 tee times, this was not a problem the Pro was very helpful and rearranged our tee time. At the end of our round we had dinner from the set menu. There was plenty of choice and the food was excellent as was the breakfast the following morning. There was also an excellent choice of gin and beer including real ales so two happy, but tired, campers who were all set for another round the following day.
The hotel’s spa, gym and pool are excellent making this a great venue for golfers and non-golfers alike. We have already recommended Owston Hall Hotel to friends, we enjoyed our golf, the food, ambience and the hotel’s facilities. We hope you do too.

We are a group of 12 golfers from different clubs with Handicaps from 10 to 24.We went last weekend to Owston Hall. The hotel and food were fine.
However the course was advertised as a Championship Golf Course. This is currently not the case and I believe this is false advertising. The course is about 5500 yards par 66 with no par fives. Also the rough was a foot deep in places less than a yard from the narrow fairways and everyone lost several balls. We were approached by members who said they were looking to join another club!!
When approached by the trip organiser the owner/manager could see nothing wrong!!!
In addition the people in the professional shop overcharged our trip leader by £11.00 for balls for prizes and tried to charge one of our party £10 for a pull trolley. When challenged about the price he reduced the price to £5.When one of our party rented a buggy for £30 he was told he could not take it to the practice area which was a fair way from the club house.
If you are booking a relaxing trip away great. If you are looking for a golf trip look elsewhere. This group of friends have been going on golf trips for over 25 years and this is the first time we have been disappointed with the Course chosen and the standard of the professional staff.

Stayed here as a gift from friends for a big birthday- room was very spacious with a gorgeous bathroom and lovely views- the room did smell fusty however. The spa leaves a bit to be desired- the water feature pictured in the pool doesn't work (and hasn't for a year ) there were scrappy bits of paper sellotaped all over saying 'don't shave in the spa' etc! most of the locker keys were down to just a key( they should have a strap for your wrist/ankle) - however the treatment area and the massage were lovely. Dinner was in a beautiful orangery and although the crab and prawn starter was pathetic, the main, pudding and service were excellent. breakfast was superb. On check in we had handed over the paperwork our friends had received by email. 22 hours later at check out the receptionist challenged us over a voucher and demanded full payment - we asked why they had waited til checkout to ask us this- we had a phone in our room. What transpires is that I had to call my friend who purchased the break, disturbing her after her night shift, so she could ring Last Minute who confirmed no voucher was issued or required. Why the hotel could not have done that at any point, also baffles me. It spoilt a lovely relaxing break . I have emailed them but had no response.

Stayed 2 nights for family funeral, staff polite bar very expensive £2.80 for can of coke. I stayed up stairs in the coach house, room was average. Breakfast was also average. When checking out got my receipt for £159 paid in full. Got home to find out they took £180, when asked why was told they would call back this happened 3 times. Still no further forward. Very poor show won’t be back as no better than one of the budget chain hotels. Looks like I nice golf course tho lol.
