“Wonderful Peaceful Retreat”
Reviewed July 23, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

My husband and I vacationed in the Berkshires to hike and visit the MA state parks. This home is conveniently located within a 30 min. drive to many state parks and hiking trails. From other reviews we learned to stop at a grocery store before checking into the house. We hiked every day and enjoyed eating lunch in the nearby towns.

Our first day we went to Tannery Falls and Ross Brook Trail (very close to the house). There are actually two waterfalls and both were equally beautiful. The next day we drove to the town of Shelburne Falls to see the "Bridge of Flowers" and had a lovely lunch at the "West End Pub", then drove to the "Mohawk Trail State Park" to hike in the white pine tall trees.

Mt Greylock is a beautiful state park. The visitor center has nice displays, and the park rangers will answer any of your questions. My husband and I took two hikes but there are so many more! We hiked the Rounds Rock Trail and out to Stony Ledge. At the top of the mountain you will see spectacular views. There is also a magnificent War Memorial and a lodge with a cafe.

Another day we visited the Natural Bridge State Park in North Adams to see a marble dam and natural marble bridge. In North Adams you can take a short hike to "The Cascade", a very pretty waterfall. And if you like craft beer, go to the Bright Ideas Brewery located next to the MASS MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art).

Very close to the "Retreat in the Woods" is the Savoy Mtn State Forest. We went on the Bog Pond Trail and the Busby Trail where you will get fantastic views of the surrounding hills.

You will not be disappointed with this home. It is quiet and tranquil, and the kitchen is well equipped. The bathroom has a huge jacuzzi tub. My husband loved to sit on the screened in porch to read in the evening. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Beautiful location, perfect stay!”

Lovely home - the pictures don't fully do it justice! The house is shielded from the road and set in a small clearing, so it gets plenty of light and a pleasant breeze at night. The bedrooms/living room are very spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom is huge (with a shower stall in addition to the wonderful bath/jacuzzi). There is a small screened deck off one of the bedrooms, which is perfect for reading late at night or enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. Everything worked perfectly, and the instructions provided were thorough and helpful. We didn't get to use the wood stove, but did use the fire pit - lots of fun at night, even in the summer. The location is amazing - very peaceful and quiet, and the forest is right in your backyard. If you enjoy walking in the woods/hiking, there are many wonderful trails nearby, and even a morning run along the "main" road offers lovely views. We were visited by fireflies, woodpeckers, and America's largest moth (amazingly beautiful!).

DO:
-Bring your own food if you are staying for a while (particularly breakfast items/snacks). The closest supermarket is a little bit of a haul, but the kitchen is fully equipped with necessities for cooking. There are a few farms (I highly recommend Sidehill Farm in Hawley) nearly for dairy items, but you might want to shop before arrival. Nothing is TOO far away (about 30-40 minutes to Lenox, North Adams, etc - shorter than my daily commute), but depending how much driving you feel like doing, it is best to come prepared.

DON'T:
-Expect to have any cell reception at all (with at&t, at least). The internet is perfectly serviceable, but sometimes slow. Plan your day trips before you leave the house.
-Trust your GPS too much. If it LOOKS like a road that leads into the woods, it most definitely IS a road that leads into the woods, and waze/google maps/etc is trying to get you eaten by a bear XD This happened to us at least 3 times during our stay. Hint: the road will NOT get any bigger or more paved.

Summary: highly recommended! Would absolutely love to stay here again. We had an amazing time, and in addition to enjoying the home and its peaceful setting, were able to explore the area and go to Tanglewood, MassMOCA, etc. If you are staying for more than a weekend, Savoy is a perfect, quiet base for a vacation in the Berkshires.

“Peaceful, Tranquil, 5-Stars!”
Reviewed January 16, 2017 for a stay in December 2016

We stayed at this retreat in the woods and found it to be a perfect place for rest, relaxation, and recharging. The home is clean, modern, and sunlit, with a large kitchen that blends nicely into the living room. I corresponded with the home’s owner via email for the booking and she was attentive, kind, and pleasant. We hope to stay here again sometime soon!

“Peaceful Weekend Getaway”

What a quaint and absolutely lovely place to have spent the weekend. The quiet and peaceful surroundings along with the gorgeous wood interior made for a very homey and unforgettable experience. All that was advertised online was even better in person. The layout of the home and the availability of something seemingly simple as a whisk or extra towel made it feel like the house was made specifically for your use. There was never any confusion as to how something operates and the detailed binder with explanations of how to operate the various amenities made the entire experience stress-free. I recommend this getaway cottage to anyone looking for peace, quiet, and comfort.

“A Little Slice of Heaven”

Words can't begin to describe how amazing this rental is!
My husband and I were married in November of 2014. Being a teacher, we couldn't go away for a long honeymoon so we found this home and decided to take a trip as a "minimoon".
Needless to say, our first trip was so spectacular, my husband decided to surprise me and take us back for out one year anniversary! Arivinda is so wonderful to work with and is speedy with her replies. There is always firewood and papers ready and available. The rooms are spacious and look welcoming. The bathroom is spotless and Jacuzzi works wonderfully. The kitchen is like being at home with all the necessities you may need to cook like home. If you do decided to go into town, there are a few close by that are about a 20 minute drive with beautiful scenery
We can't wait to go back and would love to bring friends or family so they can see how fantastic the property is. Thank you!

“Amazing place to get away from the city”

My wife and I stayed at "Retreat in the Woods", and it was amazing. Aravinda was very quick to respond and provided excellent directions and information prior to our arrival.

The cabin itself is quite secluded on a big patch of land, surrounded by forest. The cabin itself had that 'cabin feel' that we were really looking for - we absolutely loved it. The pictures were accurate, and I'd say the cabin was even better than advertised. The cabin was really clean and came with all the amenities we needed to make it a nice and relaxing weekend. It also has a jacuzzi with sky lights above it - really nice.

We hiked to the nearby Tannery Falls, which was a wonderful daytime activity; and there's a bonfire pit on the property, which was great for late-night s'mores.

The only real downside was that wifi was barely accessible (although we didn't really mind since this allowed us to 'disconnect' for the weekend). Aside from that, the cabin was perfect. It took us a few hours to get there due to bad traffic on the way out, but it took us about 2 hours to get back to Boston.

Also, make sure to plan ahead and stock up on food/drinks, as this cabin is quite far from any grocery stores. The kitchen has everything you need when it comes to preparing meals.

Overall this place was excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cabin retreat!
