Owner description: Experience Gilded-Age style and splendor at this marvelous estate, renowned for its elegant gardens and rare Berkshire Cottage.

My teen girls land I enjoy exploring gardens and taking photos, so we planned to stop at Naumkeag, a historic home known for its magnificant gardens. This is truly a hidden gem (we had a hard time finding it) and from the road you can't get a sense of the beautiful landscaping. Many unique garden features including the Blue Steps and a Chinese temple. The audio tour provides many interesting details. Well worth the $15 price of admission, and we did not even do the inside tour!

A beautiful estate with incredible grounds and views. Guided tours of this Sanford White Berkshire "cottage" make living there a reality. The gardens are fantastic (not flowers, but architectural spaces and structures). Knowledgeable tour guides. Walking can be steep. A lovely morning or afternoon is in store for you.

It's one of the Gilded Age cottages and it's such a beauty! You have a inside tour with a guide but in the garden you can stroll around by yourself and you will love it. You look into the mountains, have so many details to watch out - I loved it!
A little problem is the less parking space, there is just a small street where maybe 5 cars fit in.

Although a bit pricey ($12 for adults, $3 of free for kids depending on age) this is quite a beautiful place to take a relaxing stroll. The grounds are open for wandering (free audio tours available) and you can participate in periodic tours of the house (which we missed as we were with kids who would have bugged out). This is one of the many "cottages" built by the super wealthy in the Berkshires in the late 1800s through the early 1900s. To call a 44 room mansion a cottage says a lot about how these people saw the world :-).
