On an island where there are no national chains (save a supermarket and a DQ) Black Dog is sort of chainy with a slew of establishments on a compound by the pier. Clothing shop, Sit-down with clothing, and cafe with clothing, & more. Reviews touted BD's chowder as one of the best so we went to sample it at the cafe (coffee, breakfast fare, snacks, soups and s'wiches). We ordered a cup and a bowl at around 1.05 pm. Figured someone has to open a cauldron and ladle it in the bowls and we should be on our way soon. 1.15 and no soup so I inquired with the listless cashier (bored college student on a summer job). It was being heated! 1.22 op and after a second reminder she hands us our food. Zounds, the soup is COLD and the containers have plenty of spare volume available. I return to the counter and without any contrition or apology, the cashier takes it and asks someone to microwave it. This is a premium joint on MV!!!!! 1.28 pm we finally begin digging in. In the meantime we saw other patrons who ordered sandwiches after us already chowing down. By the way, there was also chili on the menu and that cauldron seemed to be letting off steam. Why on earth the chowder was not ready-to-serve hot, I can't fathom. The soup itself was fine - nothing to write a postcard about. Couldn't understand why so many wanted food with their BD hats. And, she didn't give a receipt. Next time, I'll just browse the clothing.
