Nice stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 2, 2014
The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They deserve a mention. And the room was very comfortable, the view spectacular. I found our room to be very clean. we felt lucky to have found this motel closeby the area we wanted to be.

I stayed at the Yankee village motel for two weeks. I found it to be comfortable quiet and affordable. The owners John and Kathy live on the premises and care very much for the property. It has a view of Cape Cod Bay. The staff is attentive and professional..

I cannot find one single good thing to say about this dump. The room smelled of mold. The bedspread was smelly and dirty. Pillows were flat. TV was small and worked when it wanted to. The two club chairs looked like rejects from a fraternity house. The bathroom had burn marks on the tub and sink...moldy walls...cracked toilet. The window had no crank to open it.
NEVER AGAIN AT ANY PRICE!

Room tip: My tip....don't stay here!

This was the worst place we have stayed at. There were a lot of things wrong with this place, to start with, there were burn holes in the bedspread, the sheets had stains on them, the bathtub had burn stains on it and the tub was dirty. The faucet fixtures in both the tub and sink were loose and there was hair in the tub. The mopboards were coming apart in the bathroom and the towel bar was rusty, and the toilet was wobbly. The windows also had the following problems: The small window crank was broken and the window was not totally closed and the screen had a hole in it with tissue stuffed in it, The large window had no latch on it and was hard to open and close and the screen appeared to be broken. The chairs had stains on them. The television was on a small coffee table, and when you lay in the bed you couldn't see it. The towels also had burn marks on them. The light fixture above the bed had rust on it and it looked as if it had water damage. The wallpaper was yellow colored and was ripped. This totally sounds as if it were a smoking room but was never re-done the right way. We would not recommend this place. Also upon checking in there is no way of letting anyone know that you are at the desk as there is no bell, and the person on duty was not the most attentive as far as customer service. When checking out the woman was sitting in another room and didn't bother to get up out of the chair to check us out, she just said to leave the key and she would get it later. They never asked how our stay was and if everything was alright. The room was suppose to have wi-fi but every time we tried to use it it would shut down and when we obtained access to it it was very slow.

Room tip: Can not advise to ask for any room. Does not look anything like the pictures as far as quality of the room.

We were greeted by a man that was not so friendly though the lady next to him she was somewhat nice. The quality of room has a lot to be desired; starting out with burn holes in the blanket and comforter, horrible quality TV barely could see picture, the bathroom tub walls were dingy and old and you could hear person shower in the room next door or even walk by room. Then if that is enough to top it off we had electrical problems and the man, the same one checking us in, basically didn't fix it because he just said leave the light and loud fan on all night long you deal with it! This is because if you shut off the light it would not come back on again in the bathroom. He didn't even try to offer us another room if that says anything about their customer service I don't know what does! I think if you're considering this hotel think twice we sincerely wasted one hundred twenty two dollars for a sleepless nasty night on some old beds. And if you ever do stay there the stairs are steep be very careful they're wet in the morning you may fall down them. Only good thing I can say was the water pressure was good & view outback was pretty.

Stayed as a couple in a king room, booked through hotels.com. In mid summer, paid $107/night weekend (includes tax) - unheard of on the cape. Absolutely no frills room, very small, consisted of king size bed with a wimpy mattress and three pillows, one wall-mounted night stand/shelf with telephone, dresser with 4 drawers and mirror and on top of it: microwave, mini-fridge and tv (no dvd player). Closet with no hangers. Small round table and two oversized, very comfortable chairs. Bathroom was a standard toilet/sink/tub-shower, with an old (but large) mirror.

We were greeted at the front desk by Kathy who was very friendly and helpful. She gave us pointers for breakfast and dinner, even though we had been to the area once a few months earlier - we like hearing other opinions. She explained the charges and gave us our key.

Upon entering the room, I was prepared for anything, based on reviews and other things I heard about this place. The air conditioner was on, and there was a funky smell right away. I immediately opened the window facing the front entrance (no small feat there), and attempted to open the opposite window in the rear, but the hand crank had been removed, so it wasn't possible (too bad, because this window would have been the more secure one to leave open). I eventually figured out that the odor was coming from the bathroom - a sort of mildewy/sewer odor that is common in places with high humidity and poor ventilation. I turned on the exhaust fan in the bathroom and shut the door, and it seemed to take care of the smell for us.

I stripped the bedspread off the bed (standard practice for me at just about any hotel) and checked the sheets and pillowcases. All appeared to be fresh although one pillowcase had a small bloodstain on it, and I retrieved a few new pillowcases from the front desk, along with bars of soap since there were none in the bathroom.

All in all, the place was clean, fairly quiet and a great value. I would stay here again, but would be prepared for a few things a little better, and also get a balcony room next time, as the noise from rooms above carried too easily.

PROS:
Location is convenient, price, simplicity, friendly staff, plenty of hot water and towels, daily maid service (replenished all used towels daily), comfy chairs
CONS:
No hair dryer, coffee maker, shampoos, extra pillows. Wifi was spotty at times. Older mattress was a bit uncomfortable. Shower head needs replacing/updating (not a great spray), and tub drained very slowly during showers. Not enough chairs for everyone to have one outside their room.

Room tip: Ask for a balcony room on the end if you are sensitive to noise. Bring extra pillows and hairdryer from home.
