We were visiting from central N.Y. For a family reunion and had a wonderful experience at the Penrose. We love B&Bs-so much nicer than staying in a standard hotel. The place is lovely-beautiful antiques and veryprivate & intimate (only 3 guest rooms). Their breakfasts were exceptional (especially their signature "breakfast parfait"). We had breakfast on their beautiful porch and even though the temperature was in the 90s it was very comfortable. Nancy & Dick are very welcoming and friendly-all in all a positive experience.

My fiance and I were in the Northampton area for a local concert and, being on short notice, there weren't many B&B options available. So we called Penrose and, lo and behold, one room was left. We're very thankful there was, for we never would have had the same experience at a hotel.

We stayed in the Bride's Room, and though it is certainly a room you won't see much anywhere else in your life, you likely won't forget it either.

The owner Dick Zimmer was on his own this weekend, as his wife was in California, but he did an amazing job playing host. He's a natural conversationalist and told us stories of traveling the globe. When asked for marriage advice, he paused and said, "Don't push any hot buttons." Will do, Dick. Will do.

As we left, he gave us hugs and wished us to keep in touch. And while the trees were just budding, and Spring seemed to be taking forever to arrive, there's definitely good warmth coming from Penrose.

Oh, and if you get a chance, ask him about the "half teaspoon."

Room Tip: if it gets too hot (the vents blasted heat), you can manually close them.

Glad that Dick took good care of you. I am his wife in California. Sorry I missed you. Keep up the good work of only staying in Bed and Breakfasts - they are more fun!! Thanks for the Great review.

Innkeepers are very nice. The inn is located near shopping. House was built in 1800s with a lot of period antiques furnished throughout. There is even a player piano that actually plays songs. You have to climb a set of stairs to get to the rooms. Innkeepers reside on the premises. I expected a nicer breakfast for $200 a night. All that was served the following morning was fresh fruit, an omlet with bacon crumbles, green peppers, chives and cheese, toast, juice and coffee. Have stayed at other inns where in addition to an egg dish, you would have your choice of ham, sausage or cooked bacon. That’s why I gave it a four star rating.

Thank you for taking your valuable time to write a review. Our regular rate for The Painted Lady Room is $165.00. When guests request an additional bed in the room we charge extra. Most of our guest prefer not to have meat at breakfast. Had we known head of timer we would have gladly provided their choice of bacon or sausage. We would love to have you stay again any time you are in the area and we will serve you your choice of meat with your breakfast.

Had a pleasant stay -- Nancy & Dick go out of their way to make the experience nice in every way. Unique facility with lots of attention to detail. Centrally located just east of the Berkshires. Thanks!

All of the "over the top" comments are really true! We just stayed with the Zimmermans and they take the idea of B&B to a high art. These are some really nice retired people, still very engaged with life, who have made their B&B into a TRUE work of art. They will attend to your every need and the breakfasts .... my god ....unreal delights. This place is a "must stay". They love to chat in the morning, so you should love that too : ) If you even like Victorian buildings, you will LOVE this place!

Room Tip: Ask about the location of the room. Beds are queen size, not king.
