What a nice kayak trip. It was beautiful and peaceful. There was no trash and nobody. We launched at the MDNR Ramp, on the south fork, across from Expeditions Party Store. There was no one there. From there we paddled a 2 hour loop. We went east, upstream in deep slow current. The whole trip was rather slow current. A little way upstream from the ramp you reach the main river. Turn left there and you are paddling downstream. Paddle down past the Pere Maquette Highway bridge to the next fork. Go left there and the ramp is again upstream only a short way. If you wanted to get out at the highway bridge you would reduce your paddle by approximately 25%. But then you would have to walk back to the ramp which is not really too far. This was a real nice scenic peaceful private kayak ride. Try it you will like it.

This is a beautiful river to tube or kayak. Great for beginners as it has lots of slow areas and still some challenging spots with speed or with debris. River Run Canoe's did a great job for us, super friendly staff and efficient job done. Very nice van to take you to your put-in. We would definitely use them again!

Very large river off Lake Michigan/pere Marquette lake. Popular fishing spot for steelhead and Salmon. Several family friendly parks, boat launches and access points for wading. Also popular for kayak, canoes, tubing.

Kayak rentals are available, but the river is not wooded. It is all in the open wetlands winding through the cattails. Bring hats and suntan lotion if you paddle in the summer.

Was a peaceful fun two hour trip. Lotsa activity. Kinda tough to explain away the "language" to my nine year old. I kinda expected it. So be prepared for adult activity.
