The bells melody is part of a block of motels in Mackinaw City. The staff was friendly, although their organization skills leave some to desire (took them a long time to find my reservation. I was already checking in when they found it. I was lucky to get my reserved room).
We stayed in a duplex cabin right on the water. At $129 on a friday night in july it seemed like a steal. The accommodations are clean, though a little dated. Dated meaning: old, barely functioning air, the oldest, cheapest tv, and the lack of a screen door on the side of the cabin opposite the patio door (which would make enough airflow to negate the need for AC).
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. Having a deck going out to within 30 feet of the water was awesome. The shallow area needs some raking under the water. Besides that, the dry beach was much cleaner than neighboring motels.
There are fire pits, plenty of chairs, picnic tables, and gas bbqs( athough our BBQ was in disrepair, but still usable).
Had some issues with their WiFi. I realize we were at the beach, but our last minute trip really needed help with planning that night.
My Bayou comment? Well, some of the units and motel area look a little ghetto depending on the visitors. Beach crap, coolers, bikes, other stuff all over.
The morning continental breakfast felt a little summer-camp-ish..., and I say that in a good way. It seemed like people sort of hung around the breakfast area to talk. Although I'm not a morning person, I think that may be a plus for people who enjoy the company of other tourists.
We will return to this place again, or one of their other motels. If they would put a screen door in at unit 15 I would want to stay in that same unit again.
