If you are visiting the Alsace Region of France, the two-star Hotel-Restaurant Le Faude is a great stop over. It is located in the mountains at Lapoutroie, about 25 minutes above Colmar, one of the centers of the Alsace Wine Route. Nestled in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, Lapoutroie is a center of outdoor activities, from hiking and biking to skiing.
While an unassuming place, with only two stars by its name, the service and food would easily merit four hotel stars. The room was comfortable and clean, the gardens inviting, and the physical plant very nice.
As I noted, I was particularly impressed by the service, which from initial greeting to final "au revoir," was friendly and helpful. I've rarely seen so many smiles in one place.
The food was sensational. A "two-fork" Michelin guide restaurant, the Le Faude serves scrumptious fare in an unassuming, but correct, environment. Locally sourced ingredients ensure fresh and tasty dishes. I was blown away by the prefect crème caramel.
One small issue is that according to the Trip Advisor website, the room rate we were quoted included breakfast, but it doesn't. When we pointed out this anomaly, the manager quickly rectified things. (BTW - The abundant breakfast buffet is good value at 13 Euros.)More
