We only decided to go out late on Sunday evening and tried this restaurant as a walk in. What a result, fantastic service, wonderful food. If you're in the area then don't miss it.

Stopped for lunch, Trout pate to start, Sea Bass for mains, carafe of Rose 9 euros. Staff excellent, food excellent and great value for money. Would travel to this restaurant just for the food, the Chateau is just a wonderful bonus.

Well , if you climb up and down and around the Hautefort Castle for a while, then hunger arrives. This classic 15th century property still in original family hands sits above the small village of Hautefort. There were three restaurants in close vicinity, probably any of the three will sate you.

Les Petits Pleasures ( small pleasures) came in the form of a happy chef/front of house couple. It’s a bistro but with a mod fit, an interest in mod decor yet stays rustic chic. The menu is rustic to traditional to local Perigord but keen on local such as the beer made in the town.

Started with complementry garlic soup; then boudin three ways, poached and shaped like panacotta; and foie gras local, plus apple and dry bread. Next came a salmon fillet rolled to look like a sausage, green asparagus stuffing, white prawn sauce, very interest set of flavours in profile; and the other dish was entrecote, cut was ok, just a lot of extra fat and gristle. Served with salad, mediterranean veges and a fair red wine, merlot and cabernet from Montagne-Saint Emilion.

In summary a good lunch, as the name says, have some pleasures in small doses. Well chosen by reading the displayed menu first.

Lunch score: 15
