We ate here two nights, the food was great and the staff helpful and friendly. Second night they had entertainment and that was nice.

We called ahead for reservations, and were told they had open tables. What we didn't find out until we arrived was that on that day (which varies throughout the season), they only offered a very limited menu (baked whitefish and pizza). Not wanting to settle for pizza at a nice restaurant, we split the whitefish, which was strong, tepid and accompanied by uninspiring sides. On other nights, they have a full staff and menu, which might have been a much better experience. So, to guests--make sure you call ahead and ask. To staff--please tell callers on limited-menu nights so that you don't disappoint them.

We live in NH, and my son was getting married in Bay Harbor, MI. We were looking for a place to stay for a week or so and also a facility to host a rehearsal dinner for 65 people. The Terrace Inn & 1911 Restaurant fit the bill perfectly.

My wife began several months in advance making arrangements with the Hotel staff regarding the venue and the front desk Manager, Belinda, made the entire process effortless...very accommodating, efficient, knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to work with. The hotel has all the quaintness and charm of a B&B except on a much grander scale while introducing all the modern conveniences necessary to make our stay memorable.

The rehearsal dinner was fantastic...the food was over the top!!! The 1911 Restaurant has a very extensive menu and we chose the Chicken Hemmingway and the Planked Whitefish. Nothing but compliments from our guests the entire evening.

My daughter and I stopped here based on high reviews on TA. What we found was high priced food with chain restaurant quality. Both of us got the scallops, hers with risotto and mine with the raved about mashed potatoes.
A total of 6 scallops not much larger than a quarter for $26. The potatoes and risotto were nothing memorable.
A cup of French onion soup was excellent as was the service. Meals were the equivalent to what I would expect for $18 or less. Dining room has a nice setting and is very quaint.

Since my wife summered in her aunt's Victorian style cottage in Bay View, she wanted to return to an old haunt this last trip to Petoskey. 1911 Restaurant was also known as the Terrace when she was younger. Apparently it has not changed much over the years. It is a quaint inn set in the middle of the glorious Victorian summer cottage colony known as Bay View.We had breakfast there on a Sunday. It was not overly busy but still had a crowd of folks staying at the inn or coming for breakfast from some of the cottages.

Breakfast was a buffet that included some interesting egg dishes. We snagged a table on the terrace overlooking the front expanse of lawn and surrounding cottages.

Cost for breakfast for two was $25. The manager at the inn's reservation desk was most gracious and provided some recent information regarding the very cottage she summered in which happens to be just across the street from the inn.

Great collection of memorabilia and news clips about the inn's log history.
