“Great View and Nice Room”
Reviewed 3 November 2011

The bayside rooms have an incredible view. I stay in many Hampton Inns and this one is as nice as any with regard to cleanliness and decor.

Room Tip: Be sure to book a room that has the bay view.

My husband and I recently went to Michigan for the first time (I have to say Northern Michigan in the fall is beautiful!) for our nephew's wedding and the bride to be had blocked some rooms at this hotel. This hotel is not bad for the price, we got it for $94.00 per night, I don't know if this was the average room rate or if it was the wedding block rate, and I feel for the price that was fair

The room was clean if not exactly exceptional. We had a partial view of Lake Michigan which was nice. The hotel was supposed to be non-smoking but the floor we were on reeked of cigarette smoke which I hate....but our room thankfully did not smell bad. The decor in the room seemed dated to me, but it was clean. The toiletries in the room seemed cheap sorry to say, the soap did not foam nor did the shampoo. But house cleaning did a fine job.

The one nice thing was the area where they serve breakfast....after the wedding rehearsal we brought some beer and wine back to the hotel and asked the desk clerk if we could sit and drink and visit and she said yes as long as we kept it down, which we did. This area has a nice fireplace and tv and couches and tables. Evidently in the morning in this area they have a nice breakfast, we did not do this but it is a very nice space and looks like a lodge.

This is a very nice, clean and reasonably priced hotel if you are in this area. It just needs a little updating and sprucing up. Petoskey by the way is a lovely little town which so impressed me. I hope to return someday.

We have been staying at this Hampton Inn for years. It needs an overhaul. Decor is looking worn and cleanliness is slacking. Even the breakfast host was not doing her job and was unfriendly. If you ask for a lake view, it is beautiful.

Room Tip: Lake view, away from ice machines and elevators.

I enjoyed watching the sun rise on two consecutive mornings from a third-floor room overlooking Little Traverse Bay. Far to the right and at considerable distance, ground fog was near a church steeple. On one morning, that fog was more extensive and rolling. It was fun to watch. Far to the left and also directly in front were a few trees with nice fall color. I can't vouch for the view to the far left and right from any room other than 305. Also, we did not pay extra for a view of the bay.
The hotel is some distance from the bay. (I watched the sunset on two evenings from Sunset Park, near downtown. Don't leave immediately after the sun goes down; remain for the beautiful afterglow.) And the picturesque downtown is driving distance, not walking distance, from the hotel.
Breakfast was good — especially the lemon bread There's a nice view through the breakfast room windows.
I did not use the exercise room, which had three pieces of equipment, a TV, and a view. I did not use the pool.
Free cookies were available at the front desk for at least awhile on two afternoons or evenings. I don't know how long they were available.

Room Tip: I saw only one elevator. That presented no problem. But if you trying to arrive or leave at a very b...

My stay at this hotel got off to a bad start. The toilet bowl had paper in it and would not flush. The clerk who was nice offered to come up and take a look. I said "no thanks - I would like another room". The only other room available was on the first floor close to the lobby (very noisy, little sleep). The room was not that clean as their was long hair on the floor. Breakfast was not up to par either. A senior tour group had eaten earlier and pretty much cleaned everything out. I had some cerial and a stale breakfast roll. Tables were sticky. Other negatives were the narrow hallways and tight parking area. The rooms were remodeled but other areas need attention (carpet could be replaced). I know that there is not a lot of selection in Petoskey but I will try another hotel on my next visit.

Honestly, I don't know how some people can remember such details.....unless something really sticks out. I remember it was clean, comfortable, and a good hampton. they aren't all quite as good. i would say, it's really hilly, so drive around. a walk out on the jetty where the lighthouse is, is worthwhile at sunset, for sure. and a drive through the interesting community of bay view is worthwhile.......so pretty.

Room Tip: water view is nice, but you'll be looking over a big flat expanse of roof to see the water....a...

Comfortable room, although the carpet needs a good steam cleaning. Water in the bathroom sink had very low pressure. The bottom floor may have been an old smoking section. Smells like stale smoke on this floor. Very nice location right on the lake and great staff.
