We spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the driving range. We enjoyed it so much that we have enquired about taking golf lessons.
We await a date to start. The coffee/tea bar was a pleasant area to sit in with such lovely views. Look forward to our next weekly visit....
We visited Dewstow Golf club for lunch whilst passing through Caerwent. It looked very attractive but parking wasn't ideal on a slope among the trees. On entering we weren't sure which door led to the bar and which door led into private rooms so we chose "Exit" and found ourselves in the bar/restaurant. The menu was a selection of basic pub food with standard beverages. We chose steak and ale pie and a ham omelette. Both came with very overcooked greasy chips and were not attractively presented but were tasty. We also has to search for the cutlery and salt etc...which were on a shelf through a door en route to the loos. We sat on the terrace with a wonderful view overlooking the golf course. The staff were pleasant but more were needed to cope with the numbers of visitors to the gardens across the road. A very attractive setting with tasty food which could be excellent if upgraded.
Could be the best course in the area but they don't bother with essentials like weed killer etc. More daisies on fairways than grass.
But.... lots of mature trees and interesting holes. And only charge £16 to play.
I'd be happy to pay £30 if they bothered with basic conditioning.
Strange business model. Clearly not working as 2nd course closing.
We went here on Valentines Day night to see The Brothers Blue Band. Just to start, the band were brilliant and we had great evening.
I have been here a lot over the last twenty plus years, but this was my first visit for at least 5/6 years. Unfortunately little seems to have been done in keeping the main club house up to date, and it has certainly not been refurbished for a long time,
When you go into the main foyer it wreaks of the mens toilets, and when you go into the foyer mens toilets it is even worse. My wife said the Ladies were OK.
The room where the event was held has threadbare carpets adjacent to the bar, which had gaffer tape on it. My wife caught her foot in loose threads.
The were pieces of wood trim as you went on to the dance floor a few feet in front of the bar, which people were tripping on,
All a bit sad really.
This was a good golf club kept in good condition and with very helpful staff. Lovely setting and very picturesque with good facilities,, two eighteen hole courses, restaurant, driving range, snack bar, bar and shop. Unfortunately from April 2015 one of the courses is to close, which will put too many people on the one course and visiting golf societies will not come anymore
The Valley course was outstanding with fantastic vistas and holes to challenge any golfer. I went around The Montgomerie at Celtic Manor in less shots! - well worth a visit especially as you have the more open Park course on the other side of the road. Large well equipped clubhouse but the gents need a revamp soon.
