What a dump here, too. Only one good thing to say and that is, if you are an architecture junkie, this is a great Frank Lloyd Wright project, as he did design it but sold the design to someone to build here. This is the same old Snowflake Motel near Stevensville where five years ago it was the cheapest motel in the area. Other than some surface repairs and a lot of paint, all the new owners did was raise the price from $145 a week to $240 a week, even in the off-season; the maid service is near non-existent, there are supposedly non smoking rooms, but it seems everyone who has stayed there, ever- in any room, all chainsmoked with burnholes in the chair cushions and bed throw. The furniture is from the late seventies with an alarm clock to match attached to the nightstand like some kind of security measure (?). The sliding door would have been nice except for the fact that it wouldn't LOCK but for the broomstick that was jammed into the track. But what had me wondering right off the bat was the SMELL in the lobby, like someone not bathing for a long time, it's just awful. The pool they used to have could be a nice planter or something, but it's just empty w/ moss and algae growing up the inside walls. It seems southwest Michigan, for such a pretty area, has a long way to go in learning how to cater to the tourist potential. And on top of that, the price actually goes UP around Venetian Fest time.... I think I'll buy an RV.
