Description: The Golden Lion has the honour of being the D Day pub that was used as the unofficial mess during the preparations for D Day at Southwick Park. The lounge was reputedly used by Churchill, Montgomery, Smuts and Eisenhower, the barmaid Edwina that served them has recently died at the age of 100 yrs. We have a small cosy lounge with a roaring log fire in the winter a small restaurant and a further larger bar in which we also serve food. Dogs are welcome in the larger bar and we have a no smoking side garden with tables for summer. Our Head chef Sonny and his team prepare our local seasonal food freshly to order and will cater for funerals, birthdays leaving parties and other gatherings, we have been known to let the whole pub out for some functions dependant on numbers, just ask and we will be pleased to discuss any enquiries. We have NO website or online menu as yet We welcome Britstops into our car park please phone ahead and have your membership book to hand on arrival

Booked for lunch on Easter Saturday and took 2 border terriers. From the moment you phone up to book you receive the most wonderful, polite and friendly customer service, which seamlessly flows once you arrive. There is a lovely choice of drinks behind the bar and real knowledge of them should you need help choosing. The food is delicious- beautifully presented and worth every penny. This is a real gem of a pub that you should have no hesitation in visiting.

Ferry over to Spain next day and this super pub / brewery fitted the bill perfectly for our overnight stop.
Just amazing food. tasty and well priced. All served up in a great pub atmosphere, and serving great beers too.
We will be back. A pleasure to use and the host went out of his way to say hello and welcome us. Great! What's not to like. Perfect.. But it will just have to do!

I have lived near this pub for all my life and didn't know it was there. We booked in last minute and we were welcomed by an amazing landlord who was friendly, welcoming and accommodating. This is a lovely quaint pub, with delicious food cooked by his son - the head chef. I will be telling all of my friends about this lovely little find and hope you all enjoy it as much as we did.

We’ve been here twice now and both times the food has been superb. The first time I had roast beef and the second time roast lamb and each time the meat was cooked to perfection. The bread that they bring out to the table is lovely and they have a mouth-watering selection of deserts.
Great selection of wines and especially the locally brewed ales. Service is fantastic and the landlord is friendly and has a great knowledge of the village and history of the pub.
We will keep going back!

We are members of Britstop so we were looking for a place to park our campervan before catching the ferry to France. This gem of a pub exceeded expectations. We could not have asked for a warmer welcome and Greg, the landlord, told us do much history of the area. The food was delicious and, although no children’s menu as such, our boys devoured venison casserole and whitebait. I had Jacobs Ladder which were beef ribs and my husband had mussels. We were treated to bread and a canapé so all in all the food was very satisfying.
