To call this restaurant a "diner" is an understatement. It is an EXTRAORDINARY diner, the best we have ever been in. The atmosphere, the people and the food are fantastic.

The restaurant has a great story from how the owner bought the diner/trailer, which was broken down in a field in Pennsylvania, hauling it back to Delta, WI, to restoring it with a 50s flavor. The business is family owned, and to raise funds for the restoration, regular customers were given the opportunity to become investors. Rather than tip the wait staff, items on the menu are priced to include tips, and the prices are reasonable.

We went with our friends to breakfast, who are regulars and investors. The menu is varied and unique. I had a blueberry french toast with marcipone cheese. It was AMAZING. My husband's breakfast was great too. The portions size were large.

The dinner gets so busy, there can be a long wait. Get their early. If you have to wait, go to the owners ice cream (homemade) cottage next door . Perhaps buy a tee shirt! Definitely, go to Delta Diner. You won't be disappointed. We can't wait to visit our friends again and plan to go to Delta Diner.

What a nice surprise in the Chequamagon National Forest. Not sure what to say, except, you better eat here if you ever get the chance! This is not typical diner fare!

This is a must stop. Whoever created the menu items really has some vision. To really try things, take advantage of the half serving of Norwegian pancakes with jalapeno - and be sure to sprinkle with lemon. Wow. My Mexican Bene (an Eggs Benedict spin) was amazing, with eggs and a chrizo sauce sitting on top of rich cornbread. It came with a side of two pieces of delicious toast from the Ashland Baking Company. The PBLT (Perch BLT) was also incredible. All this topped off with a Swedish Cream - a custard-like desert that is like a light ice cream with berries.

And worth noting -the fries were exceptional. A nice bonus.

If you read the negative reviews on Trip Advisor about this place, please know they are describing some real things about the service. Mostly, if you are uncomfortable waiting, this is not for you. And it is small - a group of no more than 4 is probably best. I wouldn't dis the staff, they were just fine for me. And I didn't think the pricing was at all out of line.

Take it for what it is, and relish that you are getting some very different and wonderful meals. This is great food worth driving for.

Showed up on a Saturday morning for breakfast:

What we liked:

1. Charming exterior and interior diner décor
2. We were greeted by the nicest smiling lady at the door
3. We like eating in a booth; there are lots of booths
4. We liked the long counter--true diner style
5. Clean restrooms (at least the women's room was clean)
6. Reasonable prices
7. No loud music to drown out conversation
8. The breakfast was delicious

What we didn't like:

1. No written menus. There is a cryptic sign above the diner counter with slangy names for different plates. You have to wait till your waiter has time to visit your table and stand there and interpret the slang for you. And you have to memorize what he said in order to submit your order.
2. We would have far preferred to have a simple printed menu to peruse at our own pace; not being able to peruse on our own was irksome. I don't want to spend the morning with my waiter getting a lesson in diner lingo. I just want breakfast and to be left alone to enjoy it. Don't misconstrue this frankness: Our waiter was wonderful, friendly and informative, but having the waiter get so involved and for so long at our table practically makes it a threesome.
3. Several of the breakfast orders had unique items in them such as jalapenos, etc. I don't remember which was which; again, the waiter rattled them all off. Few seemed appealing because of the funky additions.

Would we return? We both say no. NOTE: Delta Diner doesn't allow tipping. They add a 20% tip to all meal orders and distribute this surcharge among all employees, not just wait staff.

Menu changes somewhat but the dishes are always a treat. This time I ordered the breakfast with Salmon. It was prepared perfectly. The ladies our party ordered the Half Denny. Just right for smaller appetites.
