Wonderful food. Probably the best steak and ale pie I have ever had and I have devoured a good many. I will be returning.

Went this evening (a Thursday), having booked a table (advisable i would say). Pub had a nice local feel around the bar area (walk through) to the restaurant tables and still looked like a village pub. The service was very good. I had Black and Tan steak pie, with chips and mint mushy peas, the Pie had plenty of really nice non fatty pieces of steak in it and a really nice gravy, the chips were nice, and the mint peas were really good. However I think i would go for the veg option next time based on my partners meal. She went for the Lamb chop. The chop was quite fatty in places (but this is actually what you would expect with a chop so not a criticism), but was thick cut with still lots of meat, i dived in to help with some of the veg and this was perfectly cooked. Very good all round, hot and was of a generous size and thus although in the £13 - £15 range felt good value . We also had dessert, Mango cheesecake and a Banoffee sundae. Both deserts were around the £5 - £6 mark, but were again generous, very tasty and well presented. The Vernon arms has certainly got the balance right, between a good hearty and tasty pub meal, with enough effort made in the presentation and taste to make it worthwhile value. I certainly will be going again.

They do the best steak and ale pie ever and generous deserts that never disappoint. All in a local pub atmosphere.
