My wife works in the travel industry (and I've done so in the past as well) ... so we do a LOT of travelling. This is the worst hotel we've ever stayed at. We originally booked 4 days, but had to leave after 3. Normally we wouldn't have stayed that long, but we were on a budget this time around.

To start off, I did my homework ahead of time, and the tripadvisor reviews weren't that bad. So, either we got the worst room they had ... Room 328 by the way(maybe it was a crime scene) ... or all the other reviewers are pet owners that were just thankful to find a place that accepts pets.

First off, we arrived early ... they had rooms ready, but said there would be a $20 early check in fee ... so we opted to goto the Mall of America until check in time. I've never seen any of the chain hotels do this. Casinos in Vegas ... sure ... chain hotels (especially one as filthy as this one) ... no.

We checked in, and the room was stained and dirty. We knew we had no other options, and we had a lot of other things planned ... so we stuck it out. There weren't enough towels or wash cloths, so we called down ... they said they'd bring some up .... 3 hours later ... and they still hadn't come, so my wife called again, and they finally brought more.

Wifi was horrible ... disconnecting and reconnecting constantly. What appeared to be a blood stain on the wall behind the towel bar, water damage to the wall behind the toilet, looked like boogers on the wall in the bathroom, a blood drop on the counter by the sink.

From what I read, these rooms were recently re-done .... this room doesn't look like it's been touched in at least 5 years, and the mattress was so uncomfortable, all of our backs were in pain ... my son said he felt a spring poking him in the back. The tv channel selection was worthless as well. Our toiletries weren't ever filled the whole time we were there.

My wife had to get toiletries on our last night, just so we could wash our hair. She also had to go down each night upon our return to get towels and washcloths (they brought them up that first night ... but only one person working apparently the other nights, so we had to get them ourselves.) The funny thing is that that last day, we had left a note on the mirror for the maids to leave 5 towels/wash cloths ... they took the note, but still only left 2. Also, we tried to get a couple extra pillows ... but they said they didn't have any. You could clearly see all the rooms were not rented. Go grab some from another room.

The 2nd night, we had came back from Valley Fair, and neither one of our room keys worked (oh and did I mention the light outside our room didn't work either ... so nice when you're trying to get into your room in the dark, with so many sketchy people who appear to live at the hotel) ... so I had to goto the office and have them re-activate them.

Usually when we'd come back to our room for the night, it would appear all the maids did was take trash, take dirty towels, leave 2 towels/wash cloths, and make beds. No cleaning of the floor, etc; ... There was actually dirt on the edge of the tub that wasn't there when we left one time .. not sure if a maid scraped her shoe off or what.

My wife said when she'd go down to get towels, that there would be a line of people complaining about everything from wifi, to filthy rooms, etc; After 3 days, I called down and asked the guy if we were to check out a night early, if they'd credit the last night, he asked the girl training him, and said they would. We just couldn't take another night ... our backs were hurting so bad from their beds. Still waiting on the credit for that last night, as of posting this.

This hotel has turned me off to Red Roof Inns ... if rooms like this exist, they must not do regular checks on their franchisees. I had also noticed upon checkin that RediCard members are supposed to get a bottle of water, etc; upon checkin .... they sure didn't offer me anything. Their sign says rooms starting at $76.99 a night ... I didn't pay that (it was about $51.99 a night with some sort of pet lovers rate I'd found .... even though we didn't bring our pet) ... I wouldn't pay $76.99 a night for that place (heck it wasn't worth the $51.99 we paid) ... we've stayed for $50 a night at decent, clean hotels, with all of the regular amenities, pools and a breakfast. This hotel has nothing going for it. They don't even ask how your stay was when you check out (believe me ... I was ready to give them the run down) ... I went down to check out, and told them we were checking out of 328 ... and he said you're good to go. That's it. They know their hotel is crappy ... they just don't care, it's just a paycheck to the employees. I've seen these kinds of places on the show 'Hotel Impossible' ... didn't think I'd ever stay at one. I bet the hotel owner rarely visits, and skimps on costs as much as possible .... this place should be torn down.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 328 (or the hotel, in general)

Dayna at the front Desk was very accommodating and helpful. She went out of her way to be helpful in any way she could. Also the housekeeping staff was very helpful and would go the extra mile to accommodate.

When you pull up it's certainly nothing pretty to look at. The characters hanging about are the type you might find in a rougher neighbourhood, the building itself could probably use a little TLC, and whoever planned which rooms should be smoking and which shouldn't be, well let's just say they need to fire that guy. Smoking rooms are scattered all over the place, sometimes even boxing in a non smoking room. BUT I must say, all that set aside, the rooms have been re done recently and it was actually a pretty nice, clean room. Probably would spend a couple bucks extra for something nicer. Next time, but if you're on a budget, this is a great alternative.

Took three days of complaining to get the staff to switch our room. We could not take showers because water was cold to less than Luke warm. Hotel staff suggested to run water a half an hour prior to taking shower, which meant get up at 330 am for work. After three days our room was finally switched to a different room which was infested with some type of flies and when I showed them to the staff his answer was well we fumigate every two weeks. The new room also had a fridge that ruined all of our food because it froze everything and lacked any form of a garbage can. I would highly suggest to stay as far away from this motel as possible because you have to chase three different people down to get something as simple as a roll of toilet paper LITERALLY!

Nice place to stay. Location was perfect for us. Price was right. The motel doesn't offer a breakfast, which would have been nice. For as large as the property was, it was pretty quiet. Everyone was friendly and seemed willing to help.

My family stayed in 3 rooms here over night on our way to northern Minnesota. The desk clerk charged all three rooms to the credit card it was held on without telling us because we checked in after 6pm. Then one of our rooms had to be moved because their door appeared kicked in, the phone was smashed and didn't work, and the alarm clocks in all 3 rooms were stuck on some combination of lights. The beds were clean, though. 2 of our 3 rooms had "leftovers" still in the mini fridges, and the carpet had old burn marks in it, and had been ripped up to lay laminate, but was stringy everywhere. The property outside was dirty, bagged trash all arpund, cigarette butts and dog poop everywhere. We're budget hotel people, and are used to no frills and just a bed, shower and roof, but this was pretty disappointing.

We had the top, 3rd floor. The room was quiet and clean. Beds were comfortable, although pillows were a bit hard. We liked the wood floors vs. smelly old dark (filthy?) carpeting that we usually have in less expensive hotels. That made it feel cleaner. Everything worked fine - water pressure in sink & shower, no back up from the drain in the tub, 'fridge had a small freezer section for keeping ice packs for our cooler, microwave worked well and was clean. Not bad for the price, given we booked last minute. We'd definitely stay there again.
