The most beautiful spot a beautiful part of the NT that you can SWIM! This in it's self makes it amazing! But the good is to die for and the fish stir fry won my heart. Thank you for amazing trip away.

I stayed at the Banubanu Wilderness retreat in a group of nine. We are all up here seconded to Indigenous businesses for seven weeks. The stay was wonderful - Shane picked us all up in the boat on the beach in Nhulunbuy and took us across to Bremer Island. The accommodation was like glamorous camping (glamping) and the cabins are a cross between a large stylish tend and an eco hut. We were delighted that there are no Crocs or Stingers in the waters as we have pretty much been forbidden to swim in anything but the local pool - swimming was ON!

Helen and Trevor are wonderful hosts and Saturday night's dinner was a choice of steak or fish (or both) with accompanying sauce and roast veges. Today, Shane and Trevor took us on a four hour fishing trip and there is no way that the nine of us will finish what was caught in our final two weeks in Gove.

I don't recommend Banubanu for people who love 5 star hotels and all the trimmings. Banubanu is a place to unwind and get back to some of the simpler things in life.

Room Tip: Go the eco hut/tents on the beach!

We did a day trip to Banu Banu simply to relax and go somewhere new. Trevor picked us up from the beach and took us across. We took gear with us, but there was no need, everything was there for us. The island is beautiful, the hosts amazing. Helen cooked us the most amazing lunch (after being greeted with fresh carrot cake) and we totally relaxed and enjoyed. The water out here is very clear with lots of fish and coral and of course is a wonderful temperature. No crocs or stingers either...

We must go back to stay.

You won't find many places like this in Australia or elsewhere. It's like something out of a Robinson Crusoe tale but with smiling hosts, excellent food, protection from the dhimirru (east wind) and no biting critters. Not even crocs (if you stay close enough to shore). Thanks to the generosity of Helen and Trevor, I stayed in the Beach House. The bed and pillows were soft and it had a lovely ambience - a real beach shack with extras and plenty of shade. I was there to work and was given everything I needed to make that as enjoyable as possible. In my downtime, I walked, swam in the blue-green ocean, collected shells (and put most of them back) and chatted to Helen. She's just lovely and super smart, and Trevor and Brian are also delightful and very competent hosts. And the food is just fabulous. I extended and stayed for 8 nights! But don't go to Banubanu if you're looking for 5-star luxury. It's at one with its relaxed, laid-back, get-away-from-it-all environment, and Helen and Trevor respect and look after the country of the traditional Aboriginal owners. All of which are just some of the reasons why Banubanu is so unique.

Room Tip: I love the cabins but the beachfront tents look pretty awesome.

It's not the quality of the bed or the napery that really matter it's the people you meet and the total sensory experience that you remember. The hosts of Banubanu, Helen and Trevor, were truly memorable. They greet their guests with a warmth, calmness and acceptance that is unique. They know how to look after people providing care and privacy in equal measure.......and of course the bed, linen, food and views were excellent. Helen has a stylish eye and is a wonderful cook. After the dusty Central Arnham Road it was a much needed salve. Thank you both for sharing your world. We will be back to do that fishing!

Words cannot properly explain how beautiful and tranquil our overnight stay was! Our hosts were beautiful and accomodating mixed with a splash of adventure, times of relaxing and great food! Our 'glamping' stretcher bed made it one of the most comfortable nights sleep!! Truly a piece of paradise that I urge those happy to get off the beaten track to visit!!!
