Just returned from my 20th annual weekend 'up north' with friends. Gooseberry Trailside is our go-to place. The units are all very homey: they sleep 6 comfortably, have a furnished kitchen, 3/4 bath , living room with fireplace (and a bin of chopped wood just outside the door). Each unit also has a deck with gas grill, table and chairs. The property also includes a shared sauna and fire pit. From your suite, you can walk 50 yards to connect with the Superior hiking trail and Gooseberry State Park. Cross the highway for access to the Gitchi-gammi bike trail.

Let me begin this review by saying that the owners of this place are very very nice. Super east to work with over the phone, and left a nice note welcoming us on the door. Now on to the cabin. Walk up to the huge deck complete with a big table, grill, and a stack of firewood. Nice. Walking to the cabin, and see if a small love seat, fireplace, small kitchen. There are 2 bedrooms in this cabin, 1 queen bed and the other has 2 doubles. Everything was very clean, but it is definitely dated. They have a dry sauna that works very well, and they allow private time for you to reserve. Also nice. The 1 thing to note, this is not a stand alone cabin, it is a 4 plex. So the floors do make some noise, and privacy could be an issue. The view of the lake is across the highway, but still very nice. It is right next to gooseberry state park. Great for hikers. There are no on site amenities like food or a store, you have to go south to two harbors... overall a great place if you are there to get outside and go, but maybe not a homerun for a family vacation spot. Thank you to the owners, our stay was great.

We have stayed many times at this wonderful place (in the winter, in the summer and in the fall) and we keep coming back. It is conveniently located at the border of the Gooseberry state park so that one can start hiking right from the front door. Each unit has nice views of the lake, is very clean, has good kitchen facilities and two large bedrooms. The guests can even enjoy a sauna on the property!

It can serve as a great base for exploring the North Shore of Lake Superior.

This was one of the most enjoyable vacations we've ever taken. The secluded, quiet surroundings and the friendliness of the owner made this a great trip. The suite was very comfortable and roomy, the bedrooms were huge, and the beds were SOOOO comfortable! We came from the Twin Cities area and it was very well worth the drive. We went to many state parks and some waterfalls nearby. We'll definitely be back!
