The wagon wheel is a real route 66 motel that has been wonderfully maintained/updated and is just as nice as it looks in pictures. It is reasonably priced with plenty of room options at different price levels. I had a queen room, which was a nice size, but not much extra space, and a small shower. The shower had good water pressure though, and the bed was very comfy. The suite-level rooms are quite a bit bigger, so that is something to keep in mind if space is important. My parents were in one that had a crazy nice/big shower as well - I was a bit jealous of that, for sure.
Everyone was very friendly both when I called for reservations and when we got in - we got some good dinner recommendations and had a nice time in town - they have a lot of murals/paintings and there was a car show going too!
I was told when making the reservations, but just in case, be aware that there is a processing charge for credit cards, so we made sure to have enough cash.More
