We stayed at Le Colombier for six nights in mid September, in order to do some canoeing on the nearby Lac Saint Croix and the Gorges du Verdon. This is a smallish (22 rooms) hotel, run by three family members. It is about a 10 minute walk into the village of Moustiers-Ste- Marie. We booked too late to get a room with a view of the valley but were happy with our room on the other side of the hotel, which had a small private terrace with table and chairs and morning sun. It looked onto part of the gardens, which are beautifully maintained, with a variety of trees and shrubs, including several olive trees. Our room was comfortable and well equipped and was always kept clean and the air conditioning worked well. We had breakfast each morning at the hotel, which was a good continental style breakfast, with plenty of choice. The public areas of the hotel are furnished with a quirky and eclectic mix of artefacts. Free on-site parking was always available. We found the owners to be very friendly indeed, always helpful and a good source of information about the area. The village was an added bonus - we hadn’t realised how lovely and interesting it would be. There is a wide variety of places to eat and drink in the village from snack bars to haut cuisine. We had a wonderful stay and can really recommend Le Colombier.
