Azulpitaya is a gem.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 25, 2025
Everything worked, great water pressure and hot water. King bed was comfy. Fans and AC worked great. Housekeeping was A+. Kitchenette had all the basics, bring more utensils if you want to do more than make guacamole, scrambled eggs and cut up fruit. Fridge was big enough, freezer was small but we got filtered ice at the bar when needed. Very quiet every night but Saturday when the club next door rocked it until 2 am. The pool is huge and good temp. Plenty of chairs and tables to sit. There is a private beach area with palapas and chairs and recliners. No complaints and the location is primo.

We chose this hotel as we stayed here on a previous trip. Some things have improved and some have not- overall nice and clean .
Pros-
Onthe beach
Close to town
Quiet- mostly ( there is an event place next door but only had 1 night out of 2 weeks with loud music and they shut it down at midnight
Kitchenette in room
Water bottle brought to room but no tap on it to pour into jug for fridge and very heavy to do this
Friendly staff and good service. Quick to respond to any issues( not all resolved though)
Pool is heated but could of been a bit warmer( was warmer previous visit)
Parking available
Snack bar for breakfast/lunch and drinks on the expensive side

Cons-
Previous trip breakfast was included now it’s only toast and coffee pay for anything extra
Need more lounge chairs by pool so you dont have to do a morning race
Beach is rocky in front but they are constantly raking them up and nice beach only a few feet away
Bathroom needs new shower head it sprays everywhere- they did come change a piece but it didn’t help
Sink in kitchen area- no hot water
Needs a few more basics in kitchen like a toaster;scissors -we went to snack bar to make toast for breakfast
A microwave would be good
Need pool maintenance 2x a day instead of once as pool is surrounded by trees and drop through day leaving a large amount on pool on the afternoons
Wifi in rooms closer to the beach is basically non existent.plan on having a data plan
No tvs in rooms

We really enjoyed out stay at Azul Pitaya. It has a great location with beach access and it is only about 5 minute walk from downtown. It was quiet. We loved the much setting and the pool was wonderful. There are rocks just off the beach in that part of Sayulita beach so we swam a lot in the pool. But there is good surfing about 10 minutes down the beach. And we loved the iguanas.

Our family stayed at AzulPitaya for 7 nights (2 kids ages 6 & 9) and we were really happy with our experience. The location is great, right on the beach and close to all the shops & restaurants in Sayulita. The room was comfortable & clean, the pool was large & fun, and the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. We ended up getting sick after a couple days and the cleaning staff especially was so understanding & kind, and it was nice to be in such a lovely hotel since we weren't feeling well enough to venture much beyond the pool for a couple days.

Some other reviews have mentioned the noise, we found that only on one night (Saturday) was it really an issue. Saturday the event venue next door played music so loud it felt like the speaker was in our room, but it stopped by 12pm and thankfully we were prepared with earplugs. We weren't disturbed any other nights.

Pros - the staff was sweet. Cons - the SEWAGE SPILL right behind the hotel got more than 140 people in the wedding party sick as hell. All occupants of the hotel were horribly ill or about to become ill. Little kids especially heartbreaking. This poophole town needs to be shut down until they figure out their sewage problem. This is a very serious CDC issue - this absolutely should be disclosed. Do your homework. Check on the status of "sewage spills" in this area and viral outbreaks. It is a very bare bones hotel - one step up from a hostel. Beds are terrible, noise is unbearable, air conditioning minimal, bathrooms poor quality. They were washing poop from the roads the entire 4 days we were there. Interestingly enough, every little store, stand or shop had the mexican version of pedialite front and center. The "pharmacia" was packed with desperate folks looking for medicine to control the severe vomiting and diahrrea we all had and still have. I cannot stress enough - DO YOUR HOMEWORK. We're back home and still terribly ill.
