We have stayed here several times, and also tried condos in the Meadow and hotels in the Mountain Village. The River Rock is a rustic lodge-style, with clean, large rooms, good beds and bedding. There is a nice lobby area and free continental breakfast. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. This is a good place to stay if you are sensitive to the altitude. We find the difference between the Meadow and Mountain Villages to be significant. The free shuttle bus to the ski area stops just outside the door, and you don't have to drive up, park and take the open-air skier shuttle. Another advantage of the location is the large number of restaurants close by - and more reasonably priced. Our only wish would be for a quieter heater, but we just turned it off at night and pulled up the down comforter.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, and the stairway is a bit narrow. Ground floor is easier transporting gear.

We stayed 4 nights and we loved it. As all other reviews say, the lodge is clean, roomy and comfortable. The people at the front office were really friendly and helpful. You also get fluffy towels, robe and good quality toiletaries (soaps, shampoo, etc) (important to me : ). There was a wet bar and good size fridge to keep your suppy of cold drinks as well. All that at much more reasonable prices than places in the mountain village! What more do you need for a ski vacation? To note: the lodge is in the Meadows, and is about 20 min shuttle bus ride (free) from the ski areas. The shuttle bus runs every hour, so we had to schedule our day around it, since we did not drive ourselves. But the busses come on time, go everywhere in the resort area, and chatty drivers were great source of information and funny local stories!

We had the Vista Suite for about a week for our honeymoon. The room itself was amazing. We had our own private deck, jacuzzi tub, double headed shower, large bathroom, king size bed, gas fireplace, wet bar, and nice furnishings and decorations. The staff were friendly, and always gave good, un-biased advice on good places to eat, things to do, and when there were daily deals for skiing. Maid service every day was on time and thorough. The location is perfect. There's a couple small grocery stores within walking distance so you can stock your mini-fridge. There's good restaraunts within walking distance, as well as a short drive away. The only complaint that we had while we were there was that the tv setup was poor. They had two very old tv's in the room, with very few channels, and only a VHS player (we didn't go there to watch tv, so it wasn't a big deal, but worth noting). Overall, we can't wait to go back someday. The price was a little spendy for a week in the Vista Suite, but we wanted an experience we would never forget, and The River Rock Lodge surely delivered on that.

Room Tip: The Vista Suite was gorgeous, but the standard rooms looked nice as well.

a very comfortable lodge near big sky resort. the rooms are large and spacious with a bar with a refrigerator, bathrobes, lovely bedding, nice products and beautiful old photographs in the rooms of old montana and local indians in the 1800s. The staff is also very helpful and they have lockers for your equipment if you feel more comfortable with that rather than leaving in the car.

My wife and daughter are here now.

I don't know where to start. The lodge is perfect, the rooms are perfect, but most importantly the people are perfect!

No matter what we need, they do their best to make sure we have it.

I wanted a haircut, a simple thing right? well, it's a little pre-season so finding someone was tough. But they fixed that too when I had a crazy request for a "clippers" ..... Andrea found one for me and my wife cut my hair! It may sound silly, but it demonstrates the willingness to make your stay PERFECT!

I cannot say enough good about this lodge or the people who run it, go there, get to know them, you won't be disapointed!

Reserved in advance based largely on tripadvisor reviews -- was great! This was 1st of 5 nights in the region, stayed here to be close to Big Sky resort for zip-lining the next day. Perfect location for us, good comparative rates, really nice room. Robes were a nice touch, a/c was quiet, good water pressure, nice mountain view, very easy access to everywhere we wanted, walking distance to several restaurants/shops, well-supplied continental breakfast. Staff were all superb, friendly and cheerful. We liked this hotel so well we came back that way instead of through Gardiner/Livingston, and stayed there a second night. Ate at Broken Spoke Bar&Grill across street -- best brisket EVER!
