This is a great breakfast place. Wish it was closer to where I live. The potatoes are wonderfully crispy. We loved the cornmeal buttermilk pancakes.

Bozeman's gentrification was startling on our recent visit as our last visit was close to 20 years ago. Back then, we went to the Stockyard Cafe for breakfast and fell in love with the vibe of this place. People had their dogs sitting next to them at the counter and some of the decorations looked like they had been put in place decades ago. It still looks the same and the food is solid for a diner style place. The servers and cook were all accommodating and the visit brought back memories of the old Bozeman - where everyone was friendly and unpretentious. Watch out when you go "uptown" - boutique central - certainly not the wild west any more. Go to the Stockyard instead to see what it used to be like. . .

This place is a total trip. Their Facebook page says they're the most "podunk cafe - barely above camping" and that's no lie. But here's the thing - it's a great experience. We're not local to Bozeman, so one minute we were driving through someone's ranch thinking we might be a little lost, and then all of a sudden we were there. The little red building with picnic tables in front popped right up between the silos and stockyards. Inside, seating is mostly at the bar. There are a few tables, but they're for those with small kids (like us) or for those who can't get around quite as well. We pulled up to a table, the toddler found the basket of toys to play with, and even seated a bit away from the fray we still found ourselves chatting and connecting with folks at the table next to us. It's like when you walk in to the Stockyard Cafe, everyone's a friend. Breakfast was served fast, and it was delightful. The kiddo's pancake looked like Mickey Mouse and he thought it was the best pancake he'd ever had. It tried it - the cornmeal really does something special to it! Don't expect it to be fancy, though. Everything was served on mismatched plates, in mismatched mugs, and with mismatched silverware. That's part of the charm. Everyone who worked there was so friendly, and watching them work was a little bit of restaurant magic. They didn't have a lot of space behind the bar, but they had a system perfected. We read the rules, giggled, and tried to follow them. As long as you know what to expect from this cafe, you won't be disappointed. I'm so glad we gave it a try!

Great breakfast with local flavor located in an old stockyard. Can be quite busy but food is good, not gourmet but basic weekend breakfast/brunch style. Could improve on the coffee.

No crowds and just like it says on the menu. Awesome service and an awesome breakfast! I really enjoyed this "off the beaten path" place".
