Thanks to online deal sites, I've generally been able to stay in 4 star hotels when I travel, but when visiting a small town the choices can be more limited. That said, the Holiday Inn Express was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't luxurious, but it was clean and comfortable, had friendly staff, and a pretty good breakfast. It's not the greatest value - but this reflect the lack of competition in the area more than anything else. There's a variety of room sizes available; it was nice to be able to get a "suite" that had two queens beds and a sofa bed for some extra space.
We were a bit concern when we first got to the parking lot (there was a strong smell of manure in the air) but inside the hotel it was fresh and clean - so I'll chalk that up to a bit of local character.More
