We have stayed at the Polo towers a few times, but previously only in the ‘suites’ (Towers 1 & 2). However, recently we stayed in the ‘villas’ (Tower 3). I always wondered what the difference was and after having now seen the villas, in my opinion, there isn’t much. I understand that the villas were built after the original suites and maybe there was some distinction at that time, but now having stayed in both and on this occasion getting to see 3 of the villas I don’t see much difference other than the fact that the bathrooms in the villas have double sinks and a Jacuzzi tub/shower combination that takes some gymnastics to get in and out of without injuring yourself. Also given the fact that they sit further back off the strip most villas potentially are quieter than most suite rooms; however, you still get the benefit of the 6AM garbage truck wake up call.
Even though we are owners at the Polo Towers, I booked 4 nights through Expedia at a rate that was better than I would have received by using my options through our timeshare company. I called in advance to confirm my reservation (I learned that is always a good idea when booking through a third party) and so when we arrived everything went smoothly at check-in and we were assigned to villa 8301 on the southeast corner of the building. There is no strip view from here, but we have stayed on the strip often enough that this wasn’t a big deal. The villa room was very similar to the king ‘suite’ rooms that we have had at the Polo towers with the exception that there was a Murphy bed and thus a more comfortable sofa in the living room. We did have a problem in that the air conditioning in the bedroom didn’t work and so after a couple of days of calls to maintenance they finally pronounced it ‘dead’ and moved us to another unit. Our next brief stop was in 21311 which was a king villa on the northeast corner of the building. Again not much of a view, but we weren’t here long as I found out that the floors above 18 in the villas do not have wi-fi; I guess these are for those who arrive in horse and buggy as it is unbelievable in the 21st century that a property such as this has some areas without wi-fi coverage. Anyhow the front desk staff (and particularly Michelle) was very helpful in arranging for another room where we would have both air conditioning and wi-fi, room 15312. This unit on the 15th floor is located on the northwest corner of tower 3 and does have a pretty good strip view. Both of the latter units had the sofa bed combo in the living rooms like the suite rooms rather than the Murphy bed that was in our first villa unit. All 3 of the units had bathrooms as described previously.
In general the Polo Towers is a nice property in a good location, center of the strip, that is easy to get to and has adequate underground parking, which you come to appreciate in the heat of the Las Vegas summers. It does not have a restaurant or a casino and so once you get back to your room you are away from the hustle and bustle of the strip and have a nice atmosphere in which to unwind. The units do have kitchens with full size appliances in case you are inclined to do some of your own cooking. There has always seemed to be some type of maintenance issue to deal with during our stays, mostly minor, but it leads me to believe that the management philosophy is ‘we will fix it when the customer finds it’ rather than taking a more proactive approach to property maintenance. I will also mention that strip facing rooms in Tower 1 of the suites do get some noise from the Hawaiian Marketplace which usually has a band playing for several hours in the evening; in the past we have had rooms located there and found it to be noticeable, but not too disturbing and the strip views from those rooms are fantastic. A couple of issues that I do have in general with all the Polo Tower rooms is the fact that they do charge for 3rd party wi-fi, however, I find it is fairly reliable and more reasonably priced that other properties where I have stayed on the strip. Another thing is that they use the older style energy efficient light bulbs that take several minutes to come to full brilliance so you have to anticipate your need for light. Also these types never do give you the light of the newer bulbs.
All in all we enjoy the Polo Towers and will stay there again because the location is great, the rooms are clean and the staff does their best to take care of your requests and needs in a timely manner.
