Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail
Reviewed 16 March 2013

So much potential, but there's still a lot to like about this place. Start in Laughlin, go across the pedestrian bridge and follow the trail to the river. Covered pavilions to share a picnic lunch, and a great play area for the kids. Beautiful view of the river and Davis Dam. If you want to get to the park by car, you will have to drive up route 168 toward Las Vegas, go about a mile or two and turn right at the sign touting Davis Dam. If you're visiting here during the summer, take along plenty of water. There is plenty of cover and the restrooms are clean and modern.

I love nature trails and this is not much of one. It traverses desert terrain (and I like desert terrain!) but his trail has been very sanitized. The trail is so smooth and even that skateboarders and bicyclists use it (watch out!). They excavated much of the surrounding terrain and used much of the soil to make this trail smooth, thus, there is not much native vegetation left within 50 feet of the trail. The signage along the trail is not very informative...many were the usual "preserving out natural resources" message, and extremely basic information designed for those who don't get out much.

However, there is a beautiful mult-imillion dollar bridge crossing over the highway from Laughlin to the trail! I think that some of those millions could have been better spent on designing a better trail experience.

Minutes from casinos, but feels like miles away. Easy walk with very little elevation. Benches and picnic areas are numerous. The park area by Davis Dam is very well designed with a play area for children (you have to walk on the surface there. Cushy.), picnic shelters with grills, bathrooms, short trails around the park, fishing in the river. Depending on how quick you walk, the trail takes about an hour to the park and another back. Again, it depends upon whether you're looking at nature or doing a power walk/jog.
