Description: Charlie Palmer Steak Reno in the Grand Sierra Resort is a study in contemporary contrasts, from blonde wooden walls enhanced by mica and leather accents, to midnight blue, deep terracotta and espresso texture fabrics, and stylish booths, featuring natural grain faux leather baguettes, with floor-to-ceiling stretched fabric panels, creating a Mondrian effect. Showing his culinary diversity, Executive Chef Dave Holman, who oversees all the Palmer Grand Sierra Resort restaurants, skillfully mixes the past, present, and future in neo-traditional renditions of steak houses classics, like Pan Seared Sea Scallops & Crispy House Bacon with tangerine marmalade and poultry jus. Charlie Palmer Steak Reno is imaginative resort dining topped off with just the right amount of finesse.

We ate at Charlie Palmer Steak on a weeknight during Thanksgiving week and were not disappointed. Looking at the menu you immediately know the meal won’t be inexpensive but it is worth every penny. From the service to the food the entire experience makes the cost worth it.

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, going into detail about the differences between the cuts of meat and the best sauces to pair with them. We brought our own wine and found out that it was only $25 for corkage. When you consider each glass is $12-20, $25 for an entire bottle isn’t bad. They also throw in corkage if you choose to buy one of their bottles. For a large party buying one and bringing one might be the best option.

We started with the beet salad and were so impressed asked for the type of goat cheese on it so we could make it ourselves at home (it was made at home the following week). In addition to the salad they bring out a few different types of breads. Each was great but the rolls in the cast iron pan were amazing.

Our entrees were the filet mignon and the New York strip. The server said that side-by-side they would taste different and it was fun to try it. In the end my favorite was the New York with the Cabernet reduction sauce. We also had the twice baked potatoes and Brussels Sprouts. I would highly recommend each but have to say that the Brussels Sprouts might have been the best I have ever had. They had small chunks of bacon in them and that truly added to the buttery flavor.

After having such a great meal it would be a shame to not try dessert. We decided to have the Pumpkin Creme Brûlée. It came with pumpkin seed brittle that was the best part of the dessert. While the creme brulee was good, it was a little cold in the middle, clearly having been refrigerated before being warmed and having the top crisped.

They also bring you a little chocolate and macaroon prior to dessert. I’m not sure why but both were incredibly decadent for being so small. Finally, they brought a small bag of chocolate chip cookies to take with you. They ended up being a nice little snack the next day. Our total bill, after tax and tip ended up at $100 per person.

Overall I didn’t regret any part of the meal at Charlie Palmer Steak. The food was good and the service personable. I look forward to another wonderful dining experience with them again!

Service is outstanding! We had steak and lamb. The lamb was just a bit overdone, the sauce and veggies accompanying were outstanding. Steak was good. Unfortunately, we were seated by the private dining room, which isn't really private, so as the BD party got rowdy, our ambiance diminished. Steak was great. There are about six outstanding steakhouses in Reno, and this one is at the top of the pricing, too. We might give it another try, but it'll be a tough choice.

We've been coming to Charlies steakhouse for years to see our good friend Julian. When you visit Julian, you are his guests, not his service. Attentive, capable, exemplary service is all he cares about. 4 hours seemed like we just sat down.
Be sure to try the roast duck.
We always look forward to our next visit - never soon enough!

I have eaten at several Charlie Palmer restaurants in the past in Sonoma, Las Vegas and Reno. Generally my experience has been good food and so-so service. I was, therefore, very pleased with my experience at Charlie Palmer Steak in Reno which delivered both top notch food and service. We were greeted and seated promptly and received attentive service throughout the meal. Suggestions were made, but not pushed, which was a nice touch. Likewise, the sommelier, offered good notes on wines of all prices (there was a good range on the wine list). The steak itself was delicious and we opted for the Porterhouse for 2. While not cheap, at $98, it is lower priced than many other top end steakhouses. Overall, a great experience and I look forward to returning.
