We were given a gift certificate to the BVI from our employer for our retirement. This summer we thought we would give BVI a second try since the certificate still had a balance remaining. Our first visit to the restaurant in the early spring was disappointing - my $48 steak was dry and tasteless, my wife's halibut was less appetizing than a frozenTV dinner.

On our most recent visit, my wife's chicken breast was small, unseasoned and so dry it was an effort to chew. My halibut plate literally stunk; the sauce was some combination of potatoes, corn, mushrooms and spices that was inedible. The two small squares of halibut, combined to roughly the size of a saltine, were completely without any flavor whatsoever. They were edible, however the crust on top required a steak knife and a good deal of pressure to cut through it. This meal for two cost $90 without drinks and without dessert.

Don't waste your time, and don't waste your money.

We just returned from our 2nd visit to BVI for an overnight stay and dinner. The inn itself is lovely, particularly the landscaping. It is located on a very busy highway so there is no "quaint" location to walk. The grounds are peaceful, however, and there are several locations on the property to sit and relax. When we arrived to check-in, there was no one present at the innkeeper desk. My husband and I both remembered that we encountered this issue the last time, as well. After looking around for about 10 minutes, we finally noticed an employee surfing the net in the back office, caught her eye, and she immediately came out to assist us. It wasn't the most welcoming experience! Upon checking into our room, we discovered that internet service did not work. My husband repeatedly asked the young woman up front for assistance, but she did not know what to do. She finally agreed to call the Inn's IT professional, but it took 3 hours for the problem to be resolved. The room was very cold, as the temp. outside was only 70 degrees and the air conditioning was on in the room. We immediately shut it off but there was a note in the room indicating that no heat would be available until winter time. Next time, we will definitely request a suite with a fireplace! We were informed at check-in that there would be complimentary tea and pastries on the mezzanine at 3 p.m.. There was a wedding taking place in the main section of the inn, so they relocated the tea to the mezzanine (basically a hallway on the 3rd floor of the inn). When we arrived at the "tea", we discovered a small dinner plate of pastries covered in plastic wrap and a couple of caraffes of tea and coffee (no decaf available). There was not one spoon to be found nor was there a single staff person available. We uncovered the pastries ourselves and took a few back to our room, where we knew we had a spoon. We received a voucher for a glass of wine and cheese platter and we chose to have ours in the tavern. It was wonderful and relaxing and our server (named Jocelyn) was a delight. We relaxed in our suite before dinner and were greeted warmly by the host when we arrived. Our dinner was absolutely superb...from the basket of fresh breads to the main entrees. The dessert we chose was a bete noir and it was the perfect ending to a fabulous dinner. The food at BVI is so delectable and presented beautifully. The owners need to pay attention to the details on the inn side of their business....but overall, we had a wonderful stay and would return again!

Room Tip: The Gordon Suite is lovely (we stayed in that suite the last time)!

Large and very well decorated room. Outstanding accommodations. Furnishings were high quality and interesting. Had dinner at their tavern (less formal than restaurant), which was excellent. Our rate was very good - super value. Recommend highly. Would be good for couples or for business.
