“Relaxing/ eclipse”

Very clean, nicely decorated, a real fun feel. Plus all the TV's worked!! We have been to Hatteras on several occasions and the location of the home was perfect, close to the beach and restaurants. We were disappointed that Red and White had NO inventory. We ended up going to Conners which was a little out of the way. We were surprised that the newly opened Restaurant Open Waters exceeded our expectations. Great service and Food!! All and all a very relaxing stay. Valerie, you should have no trouble selling your Hatteras home. Good luck and thank you for the extra day. The weather was perfect the entire day!!

Thank you Susan for taking the time to review Krystal Blue Cape Hatteras and your wonderful review! I know there were a few issues like the torn screens on the porch that have since been fixed and I am happy that they didn't interfere with your vacation. You were wonderful guests and we'd be happy to welcome you back anytime!

“Excellent Beaches, Quiet Beach Town”
Reviewed August 3, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We just got back from a first time trip to Hatteras. It was a wonderful time! You don't have to worry about taking a bunch of food down there. If you don't mind paying a bit more for food/drink/gas, you can get it all on Hatteras Island. There are also nice paces to rent SUPs, surfboards, beach chairs, etc. for reasonable rates. The beaches were picture perfect. Not empty, but not crowded. The sand was clean, the water was warm, and temperature was perfect.
Pros: The house was nice. It was close enough to the beach, to walk if you only had a backpack, and chair. If you had a lot to lug around (we did), we drove the car each day and posted up, and spent most of the day at the ocean. There was a hot tub, outdoor shower, and grill. The house was clean, had a lot of space to spread the legs, and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was good sized, and there were tons of plates, silverware, and kitchen items to cook with. The house backs to the sound side, so there are gorgeous sunsets each night. The neighbors were nice (minus the confederate flat bearing ones), and there are dogs, and a rooster that run around in the neighborhood. The owner also left a list on the fridge, giving suggestions/ideas for restaurants, places to shop, thing to do. That was helpful.

Cons: Mosquitos. Good lord. They were terrible. Not at the beach, but at the house. Be sure to pack lots of bug spray. The hot tub went cold, and we couldn't find directions on how to warm it up. The washing machine didn't work. We called, and a neighbor was supposed to come fix it, but it still wasn't working by the time we left. So we just hung our towels on the railing each night. There isn't a DVD player upstairs. Not that big of a deal, but we were traveling with small children. It would have been nice.

Don't bother going to Ocracoke. Hatteras Village and the beaches are better. Don't waste your time (or a whole day), waiting hours in line for a ferry ride, to enjoy the same beaches and same village type setting you can have right in town. Ocracoke was a waste of a day, sadly. But that's OK, cause we had a week. :)

Overall our first trip to Hatteras was EXCELLENT. Highly recommend the place, as well as the home we stayed in. Just make note of a few of the above mentioned items.

Yes, the mosquitoes can be voracious (or none at all), depending on the weather and I will add that to the list of things to bring for future renters!

The numbers for Maintenance or Hot tub service are on the refrigerator for guests to call should anything need attention so no one needs to be inconvenienced.

The washer works fine on the Permanent Press cycle, but sometimes has an issue on Cotton/Sturdy. My handyman took a look at it and it seems to be working again now.

I had the Hot tub folks stop by after I saw this review and it was in "sleep" mode which is why it wouldn't warm up, so that is corrected as well. I would encourage guests to call for service if anything is not working properly.

As for the DVD, I replaced the TV upstairs in the living room with a new flat screen when I was there in May and didn't have the correct cables to hook the DVD back up. There is no place on Hatteras Island to buy electronics and cables, so I was at a loss but there is a TV in the Queen bedroom downstairs that has a DVD player built in. I will have DVD upstairs working as soon as I am able to get there with the correct cables.
