We stayed at Kingfisher cabin, the cabin is nice and secluded on a peaceful stretch of the CT river. The cabin was in immaculate condition, included all the bells and whistles you could ever want/need, and an awesome jacuzzi to boot (this is a serious jacuzzi... the jets will lift you up) . The Lopstick staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. We stayed there in Apr '10 in Kiley cabin which was also awesome and impeccably maintained... so what more can we say... great experience all around and we are coming back this winter for a snowmobile excursion. PS - The Rainbow Grill rocks, definitely stop by there!
This is the second time we have rented a cabin at Lopstick and I must say it just gets better and better! The cabins are wonderfully outfitted, clean, well-stocked with linens, dishes, gas grill, actually everything you need but food & clothes! The staff is gracious, helpful, friendly and an overall pleasure. The scenery in Pittsburg is breathtaking and we actually saw moose this year! It was amazing to watch those beautiful creatures grazing at the road side...simply amazing! There is plenty of sightseeing, walking, hiking etc to do in the area and everyone we encountered was so nice and friendly. Our trip was both relaxing and exciting and we can't wait to do it again next year, all we have to do is agree on a date!
Cabins at Lopstick is a gem. Because of a mix-up (our fault) we got to stay in two cabins. One was large and could accommodate a large family, and one was an efficiency unit. Both were exceptionally clean, well equipped, and had a gorgeous view of the lake from the deck. The staff was very helpful and I got a great first lesson on fly fishing; really geared to the beginner, explaning the basics and teaching skills. For us it was a 4 and 1/2 hour drive and worth every minute. We booked again for the following month for our anniversary.
Highly recommend.
Last minute idea to try Lopstick instead of traveling back and staying in Lancaster, which we usually do. The view was spectacular and the cabin was cozy and comfortable. Great deal overall!
We got off to a rough start when I put Magallowy road in my GPS. we ended up on a road in Maine with the same name. When we realized our mistake I called the cabins from a local business in Maine to get directions. We were only about 30 miles off target. The young lady at the front desk prompted me to put a different street name tahn the address listed on the info I received. So if you are using your GPS call ahead for another street name to use.
OK enough of that. The people at Lopstick could not have been more helpful. We told them our car was covered with dust from our excursion on a logging road and they offered us a bucket, rag, soap and a place to wash our car. Now how many places would do that for a traveler.
We found the grounds and lodge to be very clean and neat and even had the use of their WiFi to be able to communicate with the outside world. Sounds funny huh, well there is no cell phone service in that area, but there is a phone and a computer for anyone's use at the office.
We were really pleased with our accommodations. Our lodge was #12 and all the necessary comforts you need plus the view we had of Connecticut Lake #1 was outstanding. I found the lodge while perusing the internet for lodges in the NH North Woods area and we were not disappointed at all with our choice.
We received a discount card for another stay at the lodge but unfortunately its a long trip from the South Carolina Low Country, we are only about 15 miles from Savannah, Ga.
