Had high expectations but was plenty disappointed. Our room (118) was basically in the basement right off the parking lot and does not look at all like the Deluxe King room on their site that we booked. The room was misrepresented. Images should probably be updated for honesty and transparency. Would have loved to stayed in the room in the picture that I booked. When we asked about switching rooms, this was clearly the last room left, which nobody wanted, so weren't able to switch as none were available. We feel like we got a little ripped off. Seems like we were not the only ones that had a negative experience with this specific room, and reviews of other rooms seems positive. Perhaps this room should not be a Deluxe King charged at a higher rate. Would have rather spent a little less money on a regular king or stature elsewhere. Also, no iPad in room but plenty of noise from entrance/lobby above.

We’re disappointed to hear that your high expectations were not met during your stay with us in Portsmouth. However, we’re aware that our manager was able to not only give you a complimentary upgrade for the second night of your stay as a gesture for your unhappiness with the initial room, but after a bit of investigating, explain that you did indeed initially book a standard King room and not the King Deluxe. We certainly apologize for any confusion or miscommunication on our end and do hope that you’ll stay with us again, as we’re sure that your experience will not be repeated.

The staff really takes note of the details. They were absolutely wonderful and sought to care for our specific situation. That is so rare in a hotel experience and thus it truly stands out as an incredible one. Thank you Hotel Portsmouth!

This is an old building (perhaps previously large house?) that has all the charm of history with modern conveniences. We found free cookies in our room and a nice carafe and ice bucket for cool water. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean, and the bathroom had a nice shower. The complimentary breakfast was unusual, but healthy. Little plates were laid out with food. For example, I had Yogurt with strawberries, and egg with spinach salad, and salami & cheddar with walnuts. It was all very cute. I will point out, however, that only 3 or 4 of each are laid out at a time. If people take what you want, you might want to wait or let someone know. They do replenish the plates, but timing is everything. I thought the location of this hotel, on a quiet street within walking distance of restaurants and shops to be ideal. We really enjoyed our stay.

Had the pleasure of spending the weekend at the beautiful Hotel Portsmouth - this a truly lovely place to stay - clean, accommodating - great location to shopping and restaurants all within walking distance - staff cannot do enough to help you with all your needs - a big shout out to Jeffrey for getting me a special dish of yogurt each morning because of a berry allergy - and for all his help with the questions that we had - we were traveling with friends from Australia and he was so hospitable to all of us - Portsmouth is a very special place to visit and Hotel Portsmouth is the only place to stay -
