Take our 2 beagles to LBI each fall for a short vacation. They love the Lighthouse park. This time of year, dogs are allowed on the beaches. It is a lot of fun to see them explore new things. This park gets nicer every year. You can see that the Island takes pride in their history and keeps this park really nice and there are improvements every year!

We've climber other lighthouses. The stairs are quite steep and narrow at Barnegat Light. We did enjoy the view at the top, and the walk out toward the ocean. We sat on the sand behind the lighthouse on the bay side. All lovely.

The park is clean, well maintained and offers great views of the ocean past the sea wall and boats entering the inlet. We did not climb to the top of the lighthouse but it is an options for I presume even better views of LBI. There were people fishing from the rocks and many people just enjoying a leisurely walk around the park. There is ample parking and historical markers explaining events that happened nearby.

There is parking. If you take the first entrance to the Park by the Parking Entrance you come upon picnic tables and a great view of the harbor entrance with the boats. There is a nice breeze but very little shade.. If you go further, there is a long walk pass the lighthouse and out to the bay. There are a few benches for sitting and watching the sights. An ocean spray comes up along the jetty.

If you are visiting LBI, a trip to explore the Barnegat Lighthouse is a must. This is a peak back in time before modern technology to when sailors depended on the lighthouses to help them navigate the NJ waters. Check out the museum. It's small but full of interesting information. The view from the top of the lighthouse is amazing, but don't feel that you must do this if the climb is too much for anyone in your party. The adventurous members of your party can make the climb while others can relax on the benches at the base of the lighthouse. Nice day out for families of any age.
