We went to spend the week-end in Cape May and picked this b&b after having read the good comments on this site. We were 2 couples and stayed for 2 nights.
The house itself is nice, in a similar Victorian style of other houses in the town. Rooms are a bit small, and you can feel a bit overwhelmed by all the accessories and decoration in the house and room. It is somehow hard to find a space in the room to put your luggage.
What we didn't like is the pressure that has been put on us during the whole week-end.
It started when we arrived late (just before 9pm) on Friday night. We only wanted to go out to get dinner before it would be too late, and we have to listen during 20 minutes to all the rules of the house. Basically you can't touch anything, and can't do nothing out of the defined hours. There is even a 10 minutes course to teach you to close and open the door!
We spent however a good week-end, but mainly outside of the house. We didn't really felt invited to hang out in the living room or on the front porch.
Our impression was confirmed on Sunday morning. We were enjoying the sun by having breakfast outside, when Fred came at 10:05am asking if we wanted to stay for another night. Supposedly we needed to confirm right away because it could get busy. Reality was that check-out was at 10am, and he wanted us to leave. We had to pack in urgency and leave. A bit hard after having paid more than $400 per room for the week-end.
Bottom line is that the atmosphere in this kind of place depends a lot of the owners. Joan is nice and will take good care of you, but you have to be aware that you are there to respect all the rules of her home and not to enjoy a relaxing week-end...

Our stay at The Gingebread House was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were immaculately clean, not to mention adorably decorated! The location is perfect: only a few steps to the beach and within definite walking distance to the Washington Street Mall. The owners were extremely hospitable and made us feel very comfortable throughout our entire stay. We've stayed at other places in Cape May, but The Gingerbread House was by far our favorite! We strongly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone looking for an immaculately clean place that is in a wonderful location!

The Gingerbread House is peaceful and restful. A great place to stay if you want to be in the middle of Cape May and have an oasis within an oasis. The house is in a great location with all we wanted within walking distance. The bedrooms are well appointed and comfortable. Joan does a great job with breakfast--the food is tastey and just-right portions. Fred maintains the house to fastidious specifications. Everything is clean and in good working order. Joan and Fred are perfect hosts. We will be returning.

Come in and feel like your great grandparents in this nice and cosy place. Every detail is collected by heart from Joan and Fred. Enjoy the fantastic breakfast at the big table downstairs together with nice people. Or sitting in the evening at the porch and watching the horse buggies.
This place is perfect for relaxing and enjoying every second. Walking distance to the sea and the beach drive as well as to the shopping places. Don't miss a daytrip by ferry to Rehoboth's outlet malls!!!
But most of all - don't miss Joan and Fred! We will come back for sure...:-)

Joan and Fred were very gracious hosts for our stay at their B&B, The Gingerbread House. They were always available for any special requests/needs and were very accommodating. They seemed genuinely interested in us having a lovely visit in Cape May and at their B&B. The Gingerbread House is one of several Victorian era guest homes located on a wide street half a block from the ocean. The decor is just what you would expect for a Victorian B&B. The room we stayed in had a private bath, which we prefer, with modern fixtures that were in keeping with the ambience of the room. The breakfast offerings were varied and tasty including a warm portion prepared by Joan. We were glad that our schedule was flexible enough to allow us to enjoy the breakfast offerings that were set out after 8:30 am and linger to enjoy the hot portion served around 9:30. My early-rising husband was grateful that the Keurig coffee machine was made available for an early cup of coffee before the official breakfast servings were in place. We had a lovely stay and whole-heartedly recommend The Gingerbread House!

Entering the Gingerbread House is a lot stepping back in time to a Victorian Seaside house. The furninshings and atmosphere are lovely. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is very clean. Joan always serves up a delicious breakfast with many choices including a home made treat. Both Joan and Fred are more than willing to help with any concerns and to recommend local activities and dining suggestions. The porch is a delightful place to sit and take in the shore air. I CAN'T THINK of anything nicer.

We appreciated much the cosy house, bedrooms and bathroom, as well as the rooms downstairs for the delicious breakfast or for reading..; We appreciated above all the kindness of our hosts, and all their advices about this beautiful region. The house is at the right distance from the sea and the shops and restaurants.
