We find it by accident, we were walk and smelled the wonderful aroma of Indian food. When we found the place, we walked in to check it out. Found out that they have a brunch, they let us look at it. Wide variety of dishes. So we decided that we would stay and have brunch You can tell that the chef know how to make good traditional Indian food. I was so happy to find my favorite, Tandoori Chicken, and it was very delicious. Can't wait to go back and try dishes on the menu.

I feel like the "old guy" complaining about the noise level in this restaurant but the music was a bit too loud (though it was good live jazz music). The food was delicious and service was nice but there were too many kids and I don't like having to yell to have a conversation.

Mantra is "our place". My husband and I love Mantra so much - we come here for MOST of our date nights. We would come every date night if we didn't think it was pretty limiting to only dine in one place ever but it is so good that we have to push ourselves not to come here every single weekend. We have gone to all the top Indian restaurants in NYC and beyond - all the Zagat top rated, buzz-buzz Indian places - but none of them beat Mantra right here in Paramus. The food is TOPS - gorgeous presentation and perfect seasoning - always cooked to perfection. The staff there have become friends of ours because of how frequently we dine there, they know us by name and we know them too and we look forward to seeing them because they are so gracious and welcoming and always know our preferences. They truly treat us like family and it feels nice! The decor at Mantra is so chic and high-end that you really feel like you snuck a quick trip to the city. The lighting, decor, vibe - very cozy but very sophisticated. The bar offers interesting cocktails (some have traditional Indian herbs/spices infused with pineapple juice or other interesting combinations) and the wine list is very nice too. They also have a full range of top shelf liquors. We usually go on Saturday nights and there is a jazz trio that plays in the lounge. We always arrive at least 30 minutes prior to our reservation so we can spend some time in the lounge having a drink and taking in the music - very elegant and a nice way to start date night off. The crowd there is always very nicely dressed and are a nice class of people - I am sure it is because Mantra is the type of place that draws an elegant clientele. Even for those who usually are not inclined towards Indian cuisine, the chef has plenty of options for the "meat and potatoes guy" but presents them like the finest upscale restaurants in the city - but always featuring just a tiny hint of something uniquely Indian. My brother in law ordered pork chops and there was just the most subtle dusting of Indian spices melting into the juices on the perfectly cooked chops. He went back again to Mantra within a month he loved it so much! But for the Indian devotee (like me!) you will go on a journey and you will keep wanting to go back so you can try the other thing that you didn't choose because there were too many good choices! We just went last night and they lavished us with heaping plated of apps - none of which we ordered - each more delicious than the next but I still finished my delicious tandoori chicken and my husband cleaned his plate of the duck dish he loves. Was perfect as usual and we can't wait for our next date night. Note, Mantra, while being a perfect date night choice, also caters to families. There are lots of choices of foods that the kids will love and mine love going there too!

The chicken starters are really good, as is the chaat. The naan breads are incredibly soft and fluffy

Went to the lunch buffet with some friends at work. The sauce for the Tikka Masala was one of the worst I've had. It tasted like it was made by Chef Boyardee. The tandoori chicken was kind of dry. The buffet included mandarin chicken which was ok but weird to see at an Indian restaurant. No gulab jamun for dessert. The price wasn't bad but the food was very disappointing. I'd eaten dinner here in the past and don't remember the quality being so poor.
