This is the place to go meet friends, have a drink, get a great bite to eat, and relax! It's cozy, comfortable and gives you the feeling of being away from it all. While there is limitedt this place. parking for customers, there is a huge lot for metered parking in the train lot, right next door. Can't say enough. 5 stars!

If you want to enjoy a "Cheers" type of experience, try McMurphy's. The food is decent pub food and priced reasonably. We enjoy eating at the bar where there is a crowd of regulars that all know each other. The fireplace in the winter really adds to the atmosphere.

Stopped by one night for dinner with a Groupon. Service was very good and the waitress attentive. She recommended the Shepherd's Pie which was very tasty. My husband had the steak which was just okay. Bread and a side salad would have been a welcome addition to dinner. Parking is a big problem in this part of town. We came on a weeknight and had to park several blocks away.

We pass by MacMurphy's frequently, and even stopped in once but this time we went for dinner. This tavern is right at the end of the Ridgewood Train station and is not well lit but once you open the door, you are meet by a warm and friendly bar atmosphere. We were quickly seated by our server who was very casually dressed but engaging and helpful.

We ordered simply having the beef stew and chicken pot pie. A side salad is served with the dinner which was assorted greens with dressing on the side. The balsamic was pretty sharp vinegar taste but the creamy ranch was smooth but salty. The meals arrived quickly and the beef stew was a definite hardy potion of cubes of beef on a base of egg noodles. The beef was flavorful but dry and not having absorbed much of the rich gravy. The carrots were firm and added a nice sweet note to the dish. The pot pie came out on a very large dish and had a golden crust covering. It was scorching hot and you had to wait to dig in. The crust was very flaky and buttery flavored and covered a nice filling of chicken, with fresh peas and carrots. A nice rendition of the classic dish.

We decided to try one of the desserts as well and settled on the apple crumb cake. We were surprised and delighted by the offering which had tart firm apples with a firm crunchy cinnamon crumb on top. The side crust was flaky but the bottom was soggy from the nice juicy apples.

Service throughout was prompt and pleasant. While you wait for a dish, you can look around at the large collection of memorabilia of days past with much of it about the village of Ridgewood itself.

I wanted to treat my friend to a nice lunch so we ended up here. I know this restaurant to be somewhat of an institution here in Ridgewood so in was expecting something great. NOT So much. We were not greeted at the door, nobody was in the place eating. No wait staff were evident. The only evidence that they were open was the three sad old men at the bar reading newspapers and drinking. I don't know how those drinks appeared as we did not see a bartender. After wandering around for 5 minutes and calling for assistance we left.
