I was truly disappointed in this dining experience. The service, the food, the prices were all a disappointment. It took over one hour for us to be served our main course. The waitresses were not particularly helpful, and they appeared frazzled. Out of the 4 dinners that were ordered at our table, only one was remotely worth the price. I am not kidding. The bruschetta was average and the fish appetizer was below average. The owners were solicitous, and apologized for the long wait and the service issues. I won't be returning because there are other nearby restaurants within a few blocks that currently are doing a better job.

This is a Great family owned Italian restaurant that never disappoints. You can also bring your own wine or beer.

Authentic Sicilian. Great atmosphere - wife greets every table and and husband leads kitchen and we are told often comes out to play the Baby Grand (not this night).
We shared a tasty and perfectly cooked pasta dish with mushroom bolognese. Had beef stew since I brought a hearty wine and beef melted in mouth. Friends had veal scaloppini which was again perfectly cooked with great wine taste. For dessert puff pastry with organe custard light and creamy but Panna Cotta (custard infused with raspberry) was a bit too sweet. Seems you can't go wrong here - BYOB and nothing over $25.

Friends took here for dinner and we could not have been more surprised at a great restaurant this is. We have been living in Somerset county for over 20 years and have been through Somerville so many times and never knew this restaurant existed. The bulk of the restaurants in town are near the court house and heading west on Main Str. Da Filippo's is heading east toward the fire house and is easy to miss. Though well lit and with a wall of glass blocks you think of it as part of an office building.
Husband and wife team have been here for 29 yrs. She runs the front of the house and he is the chef, also plays the piano and sings. Exposed brick walls, tiled floors, crisp linens on the table. Food is excellent. If you are looking for pastas, red sauce and the usual Italian fare, this is not for you. Food is closer to northern Italy with Swiss influences, wife is from Switzerland. 3 of us had fresh fish, flounder, mahi-mahi and black sea bass. The other had beef stew.
Desserts are rich, coffee is freshly brewed.
We will be back. FYI, Friday and Saturdays are very busy.

It's easy to overlook this byob restaurant when traveling on East Main Street -- there is parking at the rear of the building as well as side street parking. It was great to be greeted by the owner's wife who welcomed us and stopped by a couple times during dinner. Their bruschetta was tasty. Even more flavorful were their entrees. Certainly enjoyed their profiteroles which had a generous lathering of chocolate! Generous portion of risotto. I was reminded of being in Europe where we had to request for our cheque - a pleasure to have a leisurely dinner. I'd go back to try other dishes!
