We love this place. Great view and usually great food. So that's why we were so disappointed with our breakfast on Memorial Day. Maybe they are just off to a rocky start. It was a gorgeous morning, but they hadn't opened up the plastic dropdown wind "shields" and so it was like a hot house on the beautiful porch. No music playing - when we usually enjoy nice jazz. Dry toasted rye bread cracked and crumbled it was so dry. The waitress is also a bit loud.

Just a few tweeks and attention to the customer's experience and this place will have lines out the door in no time!

Black Trumpet was a beautiful setting. The meal was excellent. We had mussels and calamari first, which were delicious. Our main courses were cod and a pork chop. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and the service was outstanding. They now have a full bar. We were so full though we didn't even have room for dessert although they sounded delicious. It was a perfect evening.

Black Trumpet is one of our favorite restaurants. Although it is on the pricey side, the food consistently delivers. When the weather is nice, the veranda offers plenty of outdoor seating with views of the boardwalk and ocean. When it's cooler, the dining room is quaint and large enough to accomodate the slower off-season. The menu is great with options to suit just about any palate. One of the appetizers I recommend trying is the lump crab meat guacamole. The entrees reflect seasonal offerings, but one I order every time is the lobster tower. The dish is comprised of a shelled lobster over a crab cake on a bed of spinach. That is then placed into a wonton bowl and served over wasabi mashed potatoes. It is delicious. The dessert menu is good and the coffees are prepared well.
One note: the restaurant is BYOB, so bring a bottle from home. There are liquor stores within driving distance, but none near the restaurant.
To cap dinner, I suggest a walk on the boardwalk or through the neighborhood. Spring Lake is a beautiful town.

Beautiful location right on the beach in Spring Lake. Always enjoy a nice 3 course lunch on the porch at a very reasonable price.

We once thought this one of the top restaurants in New Jersey. Our last couple of visits however have shown a steady decline in service and food quality. Tonight was really the worst, a mothers day fixed menu of second rate pasta not home made, a cheap salad with commercial quality dressing, small heavily breaded crab cakes, and deserts that were third rate. Once upon a time we loved eating at the old site, when food quality and service seemed to matter. Now it seems they are just going through the motions and counting on their new location to get them through. However, we won't be back.
