River Bend Lodge has the laid back atmosphere and charming staff that all lodges aspire to. It is situated adjacent to the Addo Elephant Park about 90 kilometers from Port Elizabeth. On arrival we were fortunate enough to see a herd of elephant and lots of other game. The next morning our guide Phillip found the heard and we were able to approach within touching distance. What a marvellous experience being part of a herd of elephant. Later that day we found 2 handsome Kalagadi male lions and watched the dominant male snacking off the remains of a kudu.
Our chalet was large and roomy with all mod cons. We would have a brunch ,after our morning drive , which consists of both cold and hot items deliciously prepared and served on the veranda outside enabling views of the elephants drinking at the water hole. We skipped lunch and ate dinner which is a lavish affair wonderfully presented and in the balmy weather we were able to eat alfresco.
Our guide Phillip was excellent and found us plenty of game both large and small. The bushveld is predominantly sweet thorn and spekboom and is beautiful. We went searching for a lioness and her cubs while traversing the beautiful mountains.
Addo is malaria free which is another boon.More
