“Absolutely exquisite!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2012

The villas are beautiful and spacious. They are impeccably clean! The staff were lovely - could not have done more for us. Stunning views and great location.

Very calm and comfortable place to stay. Though the hotel claims to be five star one wouldn't get that feel. A good place to relax and to be lazy.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom villa over Christmas and had a lovely time. The apartment is really spacious so you feel like you're staying in someone's home, rather than a sterile hotel room. We had 2 bedrooms, one master with a small sitting area, large tub, shower and vanity/toilet, one queen bedroom with ensuite bath with shower, a full living and dining area and a full kitchen with basic utensils and tools including a washer/dryer combo unit. Out on the terrace we had a jacuzzi tub overlooking the pond and 2 lounge chairs a few steps down.

The staff was very helpful, polite and professional - excellent customer service. The breakfast was average, but we didn't take advantage of made-to-order eggs as we should have. But a nice selection and it's included with the room, which is really convenient.

The location is a few km out of the downtown area so it's a bit quieter, but you will want a car. Beautiful views of the countryside. Spa on site, which was reasonable. Restaurant on site (didn't try it but for breakfast)

Overall, would recommend if you like a bit more room when you travel. Note there are a lot of stairs in the facility, so if stairs are a problem, this might not be the best choice for you.

Room Tip: overlooking the pond was our preference

The Villas are large with a great modern bath tub attached to the room. The views are outstanding from the villas on the left hand side and the same views invite you for a delicious breakfast. The walk into the vineyard area of the hotel is invigorating and private. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is excellent. You might just wanna carry your toothpaste and tooth brush along as I noticed most hotels in South Africa do not provide that. All in all a superb stay.

Room Tip: you can choose the rooms as you enter the hotel that are placed on the left hand side as they offer...

L 'ermitage in Franschoek unfortunately does not live up to it's 5 star branding.
The accommodation was very luxurious and spacious, and we had a villa that overlooked the little lake next to the hotel. The best feature was our jacuzzi where we relaxed every evening watching the sunset.
The rooms were clean but the attention to detail was lacking in that there were two lightbulbs out in our room, one of them above the mirror in the bathroom & the water trickled out of the shower. The rooms can be very dark as they do not get much sun.
The linen was very clean and fresh and there was a turn down service every evening with chocolates on your pillow.
The gardens are beautiful and were a feast of white and purple for the eye.
Most disappointing was the food, which was average and lacked finesse that one would expect from a 5 star hotel. The breakfasts were average and not up to 5 star expectations, the best were the fresh croissants and fresh cut fruit.
The staff were very friendly in particular Chesney, Michael.

Room Tip: If you like sun, ask for a villa that has north facing windows

Villas are pleasant to the senses and generous with space. A retreat with scenic views and offers tranquil vistas. Oh, it is rather luxurious too.

We stayed at L'Ermitage for two nights. On arrival we were upgraded free of charge to a villa, which was a nice surprise. However, the villa situated right on the lake, was affected by the local feathered residents; i.e. ducks and coots, who had used the plung pool and veranda as their own! We asked for this to be cleaned, and it was, but there was still a residue which was a shame. The apartment was comfortable and well appointed, if a little dark. In comparsion to Franschhoek Manor, which we stayed in for two nights before, we could not say L'Ermitage was very good value. The location is stunning but work is needed to make it a truely wonderful all round experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a Villa upgrade!
