Franschhoek must be the most laid back place in South Africa and The Last Word the most laid back place in Franschhoek! We spent 3 nights there after touring for 3 weeks and could not have asked for a better place to stay. The rooms were of a very high quality of decor and finishing and very spacious, The free mini bar helped with the relaxing. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff all very helpful. Special mention must go to Conrad who was always willing to help with any query or problem and was an endless source of information about places to visit. I cannot recommend this property too much. The only problem is if it becomes too popular we might not be able to book in next visit. There is no where else in Franschhoek I would consider in future having stayed here.

Room Tip: Room 7 was excellent

OMG this boutique hotel is quality! The beautiful decor creates a restful ambience in the public areas and in the enormous bedrooms. Toiletries are classy and the bed was the best we slept in on our trip ( and we slept in 8 in total!). Conrad, the manager, is so helpful. He managed to get us a table in a very sought after restaurant and checked our follow on travel arrangements for us as we had a problem with transfers. He is the hotel's best asset and is helped by his lovely, welcoming staff. There are complimentary bars in the lounge and bedrooms. Each evening you return to tiny puddings left in your room. On my birthday we returned to a room filled with candles and a bottle of champagne. This is a very special place!

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the entrance area was lovely

I stayed here with a friend for a couple of nights and would have liked to have stayed longer. We were blown away when we walked into our room, which was spacious and beautifully appointed, the only thing we remarked on was that it was a waste of a romantic room on two pals! The welcome was great and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was really good, save space for the cooked plates, delicious! Also the fact you come back at the end of the evening to find, not a chocolate but a creme brulee by your bed is amazing. You help yourself to drinks from the bar and can relax by the pool or on the sun terrace.
We had to leave very early on our last day and we were given a packed breakfast to take with us. All the staff were fantastic.
The location of the hotel is ideal for all the restaurants in Franschhoek. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We booked a 2 night stay at The Last Word. Our very warm welcome by Conrad (despite our arrival in the middle of the night) set the tone for what was truly a perfect weekend. This elegant,10-roomed hotel, tastefully decorated throughout in restful tones of duck egg blue and beige, is conveniently located on the main street and is a mere stone's -throw away from several top rated Franschhoek restaurants and the Huguenot monument. Our room was magnificent - huge, spotless, well-appointed and exceptionally comfortable. The bed felt like a proper king-sized bed and not two singles pushed together with an uncomfortable gap in the middle (as one finds so often in hotel rooms). The complimentary in-room bar and tea/coffee station was well stocked with everything we needed - soft drinks, wine and a small assortment of well chosen snacks. There is also a bigger complimentary bar available to all guests in the lounge if desired, with tea and coffee available on request. Breakfast was lovely - a small but well presented buffet and a well considered menu of hot cooked-to-order items. The staff were extremely attentive, without being obsequious or overbearing. In summary, our hosts were charming, the property was beautiful and our every need was graciously attended to - unquestionably The "Last Word" in location, elegance, service and hospitality.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 have access to a private patio/pool
