We spend a few nights at Leeu House. The accommodation is first class with very new furnishings and great quality.
The poo, area is beautiful and like a large oasis in the middle of Franschhoek, quite unexpected. The property looks small from outside and the pool area is very extensive and private.
The staff were ok, but lacked the far better customer service offered at Mont Rochelle.
The biggest complaint was the dreadful breakfasts. The hot food selections came either over cooked or raw. For a 5 star property the breakfast was more like 2 star. However It didn’t spoil our stay and stuck to the cold selection which was fine.
The free 10k transport around the surrounding area was excellent as is the hotel’s central location, meaning you can walk anywhere in town in 5/10 minutes.

Leeu House has a nice atmosphere - friendly staff who are always willing to help. For example, we commented that the toast at breakfast was exceptionally good - when we left, we were presented with a complimentary loaf of the homemade bread (not usually for retail sale). Our room was described as a classic with terrace - it's just to the side of the entrance. It was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a very good selection of amenities.

Although the main building is so close to the main road in town the bedrooms and pool/garden are an oasis of calm. The pool cool temperature.
The group drivers will take you anywhere near by, so very good for those without own transport.
Mr Singh, (aka BAS), seems to have private hospitals in India. His art /statue collection is stunning, as is the work of his Cape Town interior designer if a little bland.
In the room were gifts, small pot of jam, 2x halves of wine, snack cheese biscuits and some sweets. All very kind.
The staff are plentiful and gracious with all the help you need.
Breakfast fairly standard but good with fine terrace available when warm.
The serrated mountain views and stunning gardening are a joy.
Plenty of eating choices as part of Leeu, and from other near by restaurants.
If however you want more privacy/space the Leeu Estates (country house with 17 rooms)
may be preferred but is out of the eating/tourist strip.
The rare sort of place you do feel recharged and pleased to have visited. It is however expensive for South Africa and perhaps a little bland in its "International" decor.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. It is not inexpensive but I felt it was worth it and I was reluctant to leave after our two night stay.
The staff, and there are many of them, were warmly welcoming and helpful throughout. The Leeu Collection of winery, microbrewery, restaurants, cafes, art galleries and bars over and above the various places to stay are extensive in and around this town and they are pleasantly varied while throughout the refined and carefully planned decor, the fine architecture and the stunning art works make a visit to or stay in any part most enjoyable and comfortable.
Complimentary transfers around the area (in a radius of 10 km, I think) is offered not just to the other parts of Mr 'BAS' Singh's collection in Franschhoek but to other places of interest and restaurants.
We enjoyed the very pleasant breakfast (part buffet and part cooked a la carte) al fresco on the terrace close to the pool. The gardens are well landscaped and we observed the gardeners clipping the parterre hedges almost with nail scissors and certainly determined with plumb lines. The result is immaculate.
Our room was large, comfortable and had a large en suite bathroom with underfloor heating. If I have one slight issue it would be the slippiness of the marble tile shower floor. We loved the complimentary treats in our room such as the deliciously addictive cheese biscuits - and wish they were topped up daily - and the homemade plum jam we are currently enjoying at home. Ditto the two complimentary half-bottles of BAS wines.
We enjoyed an exceptional stay. We look forward to the Leeu developments here in UK in London and the Lake District.
And do not miss dinner at the Dining Room up at the Leeu Estate where we enjoyed a superb dinner, advised helpfully through the wines by the glass by Anton, the very informed and experienced group sommelier. The fact that the 'boss', Mr Singh was also dining may have made the staff just slightly edgy but I am sure the quality of the food and wines and service we experienced was not affected. And the views across the, garden, vineyards and valley to the mountains beyond is simply awe inspiring - and I am used to the Scottish hills and mountains.

My husband and I have visited South Africa on a number of occasions but this was the first trip that we decided to stay in Franschhoek. We chose Leeu house in the town for our three night stay and were not disappointed. I am amazed to see a negative review from December on trip advisor as our stay at Leeu house is up there with some of the best we have ever had. The staff were absolutely charming and could not do more to be helpful. The breakfasts were lovely - especially the Chia seed pots! The pool was perfect, a good size for my morning swims and we really liked being so close to the variety of cafes and restaurants in town.
We were able to visit the sister Leeu properties and spent one morning at the gym and then had breakfast at Leeu Estates before going onto a complimentary wine tasting there.
I am very sad to be leaving today and very much hope to be back in the future!
