Thandekayo was a brilliant find and we enjoyed our stay there very much. Anita and Martin are extremely thoughtful and helpful and the welcome we received from the lovely Banda was SO warm. He and his wife Janet are such an asset to the guest house - her breakfasts are delicious and he has such a lovely personality. We really felt as if we had made friends and will certainly go back there again if we return to South Africa. plac

Room Tip: We stayed in Agapanthus which is at the top of the building and might not be suitable for people who...

My wife and I visited Cape Town for our honeymoon in January, 2012 and stayed at the Thandekayo in Hout Bay. It was a great location from which to explore Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. The owners were warm, hospitable and welcoming. The rooms were clean and well maintained and the freshly made breakfast was also a big plus. I would strongly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Arum Lily has a great view

We stayed here for a week over new year. The location is great with clean and comfortable rooms. The service supplied by Banda and Janet is outstanding. Martin was very helpful arranging taxi services and restaurant recommendations. Good breakfasts and a pool made this a great base for us to have while in Cape Town.

We had an excellent 6 nights stay at Thandekayo Guest House. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, Martin, Anita and their staff Banda & Janet. We had a very nice, good size room with separate shower, bath, and the room lead to the swimming pool. The bedroom and the entire guest house is clean, very nicely decorated with some amazing photographs by Martin. The grounds of the guest house are also well kept. Thandekayo provides a very wonderful and relaxing feeling after a long day's trip. We love to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view in the evenings. The guest house provides a good breakfast selection and Banda will always ensure that the guests are comfortable & happy at breakfast. Thandekayo is located in a quiet area and close to all wonderful sights, Martin & Anita are very helpful, able to provide tips on areas to visit and come up with great suggestions. We highly recommend Thandekayo as the perfect guest house to stay in Hout Bay.

I attended a wedding in Hout Bay and wanted to stay over. The guest house felt like a home away from home! The owners and staff is extremely welcoming and professional. I will certainly stay there again if I am in the area!

There are a couple of details, that make the experience of staying at the Thandekayo really unique. For instance, we felt, that Janet and Banda, the personnel who lives within the same property together with their children, love the place and the guests just as much as the landlords do, and they are very competent. And our boy had a great time playing football at the porch, together with the boys of the two families! The pictures of Martin and other photographers, that are exposed at the Guest House and at Martin's gallery in town, gave us very interesting perspectives of the landscape. And the comments of Martin, an experienced and well known fine art photographer, gave us another look "behind" many of the things we were discovering. And of course, we confirm everything you can read in many other reviews: Anita and Martin are very cordial, competent, open minded and cosmopolite hosts, and they gave us just the right recommendations we needed to discover and enjoy the cape as a family. The Guest House itself is a very nice place at a convenient location, provided you have a car. As a bottom line, we can only recommend the Thandekayo to everybody, who does not want an anonymous hotel room, but rather a warm, cordial atmosphere with many special, personal touches. Thanks, Anita, Martin, Janet and Banda!

Room Tip: There are rooms for every taste: More quiet or with easy access to the parking, just ask the hosts.

We attended a 40th Birthday Party at a Restaurant in Hout Bay & did not want to drive to the Southern Suburbs early hours of the morning so decided to sleep over - even during the booking process I received excellent service from the owners even though we booked at the last minute. The atmosphere was homely and relaxed. The service during breakfast was excellent. The birthday girl & her boyfriend joined us on the Sunday morning and they were also welcomed. We felt so at home that she decided to open her birthday presents there. She had coffee and juice and we were not charged. We were sad to leave this excellent location
