We were on a luxury trip around South Africa and stayed in very nice lodges very night. Fraai Uitzicht 1798 was by far the nicest for a number of reasons.
On arrival we had a very warm and personal welcoming and Sandra, the 'Lady of the House' so to speak, showed us around the property. Lush gardens and stunning mountains views a lovely history manor house; a little paradise. Situated throughout the estate, were little guesthouses in a modern or at least nicely renovated cape dutch style. Inside, the houses were furnished in a modern aesthetic and high-standard architectural aspiration. The quality of it all was very high. In our room, the Bathroom and especially its open shower and the large bed-niche were most striking.
As is was winter, the houses were a little cold, when we arrived, but with heating and a hot-water bottle (that was kindly placed in the bed during dinner) made it very cosy. There was even a little artistic fireplace.
We had already heard about the great cuisine before we arrived and as Fraai Uitzicht 1798 is located away from other dining-options we followed the recommendations to dine on site.
The food was absolutely amazing and unparalleled on our culinary adventure through South Africa. Sandra, the chef, cooks with such passion that every bite is a delight.
Starting with a 'amuse-gueule' or "Gruß aus der Küche", which was a corn soup with truffle oil, the night had already reached its peak. Delicious to the absolute max.
Starter: a spicy tomato soup... needless to say how good it was!
Main-course: Kudu-Steak, with a delicious wine and onion jus and the African continent painted in vegetables and potato-puree... perfection
Desert: I believe it was panna-cotta... hmmm
We had a Merlot produced on the property and as expected it was great!
The 'lord of the manor' also known as Karl was looking after us at dinner and was very reserved and kind. Very professional.
I travelled with my family in a group of 7 people and each and every one of was is still mind-blown by the experience.
In the morning, we had a very delicious and abundant breakfast with home made granola-muesli and a delicious yoghurt. Other than in other locations, it wasn't a normal buffet, but a selection of foods that was brought to the table just for you. The fruits were fantastically sweet and most likely local if not homegrown. Even the bread was a notch nicer than everywhere else...
The grounds are incredibly beautiful and in combination with views to the mountains simply breathtaking.
Unfortunate we had to leave early in the morning, but on a little stroll around the estate, we discovered a sanctuary of peace in a bamboo forest. It is a surprise for you to find out, what is is... go ahead.
Every facet of our stay was perfect, expect use having to leave!
Somebody truly puts their heart and soul into every little detail...
I wish wish wish, we had stayed another night... Thank you
