Great place to do some very nice walks up the Helderberg mountain and be at one with nature
There is also a very nice little coffee shop where you can have light meals,tea/coffee etc
There is a great area for picnicking which is a fantastic place to unwind, play ball games and generally unwind
In the summer season on Sunday evening's they have bands play music to raise funds for the nature reserve

Thank Alan J

If you are into picnicking with your family or walking and hiking, a visit to the Helderberg Nature Reserve is a must. There is a large lawned area for picnics under beautiful oak trees and a number of walking/hiking trails suited to all levels of experience and fitness. I walk in the Nature Reserve on a weekly basis for the fresh air and once at the gorge, the views of False Bay are spectacular. There is an information centre, a coffee shop and ablutions available although I have not made use of them. I would recommend the reserve for picnicking with kids and hiking specifically.

We went to the reserve and ate at the restaurant three oaks and walked around with little one . They served the best hamburgers I ever had and great service . We sat outside and really peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

What a wonderful place to go to stretch the legs or just relax under the trees on the soft green grass. There are many hiking trails on the slopes of the Helderberg that are well sign posted, colour coded and safe enough to walk alone.
The West Peak and The Dome are, however, much more challenging and take longer to hike and offer a breathtaking 360 view over Somerset West, Strand, Cape Peninsula and Stellenbosch. A guide is recommended if not comfortable doing the bigger and longer hikes.
The Reserve also offers entry cards for regulars which you can purchase for R120 per annum.

Helderberg Nature Reserve is what made me fall in love with Somerset West! We are regular visitors to the nature reserve and particularly enjoy Sunday morning walks. The trails offered vary from mild to wild and the views are simply amazing! Well maintained routes and a superb array of proteas and other fynbos. A must for any visitor to Somerset West!
